Today I typed in google.com to look something up and got quite a shock. The whole page had turned black! I instantly forgot what I was about to search for and checked the URL to see if I typed it right.
But there below the text box was all I needed to understand: "We have turned the lights out. Now it's your turn." I clicked the Earth Hour link to understand because it was all too astounding.
Google did this to raise awareness for energy conservation and a little thing called Earth Hour. In some cities there will be events to show how energy conservation-istic they are! How exciting.
Today, the 29th of March, from 8-9PM, turn out your lights! It doesn't matter what time zone you are in, just whenever the clock hits 8:00 (or when the big hand is on the 12, little hand on the 8.)
I have a little bit of sad news though. The blackening of the Google page is not saving energy, it's just a demonstration to promote EarthHour. Oh well, at least there are other ways you can conserve energy when it comes to your computer. There is always blackle.com for those who have the urge to search the web using less energy.
Check it out: http://www.google.com/intl/en/earthhour/
Or: EarthHour.org

I decided to check the information out before just posting like I did right off the bat. (Bad me, bad).
Blackening the Google page does save energy if you do not have an LCD screen.
Turning the brightness down on an LCD monitor does help save some energy.
There isn't a HUGE difference in viewing if you change from say, 90 to 0, if you mess with the brightness control.
Hey. I just wanted to tell you that I have read all of your stories and i think they are amazing. You are a really talented writer. I think that you should consider journalism.
