I saw a post on this topic, and it made me want to write my own post on illegal immigration.
The problem with illegal immigration (Mexican or otherwise), they don't get taxed, thus they aren't really "paying for living in the U.S.", so to speak. Mexicans are the predominant group, but there are illegal immigrants of lots of other nations.
Because illegal aliens don't pay taxes, they are really a detriment to our country. Also, hypothetically speaking, if we have too many illegal immigrants, they will take the jobs of the people that could legally be hired for the job, thusa hurting the American economy. I don't live on the west coast, but I hear that this is only starting to be a problem, since the legal citizens wouldn't want most of the jobs that the Mexicans are taking. But if enough Mexicans come over, and they'll be spread over a larger area, this will get to a serious problem.
Also, we don't want too many people in this country for the purpose of not having overpopulation, depletion of resources, inflation, etc...
Here is what we should do: give permanent residency status to the immigrants already here. Potentially then, they will be able to apply for citizenship. Otherwise, we should not let any more illegals in (of any nationality--it is just easier to speak about Mexicans because there are a lot of them), meaning really enforcing our immigration laws. I know that this would hurt many people that I know (since I am Uikrainian and I know quite a few illegals from Russia/Ukraine), but deportation should happen to future illegals if it is necessary.

Are you sure they don't get taxed? Because I know they do. I work with them and have for 2yrs. Some even get taxed twice. here and back home did you know that? NO I didn't think so.So don't make comments on which you don't know about.
There are two types of illegal aliens...ones with work vias and ones without them. I am speaking of the ones that aren't here on work visas, which there are many of.
If they have a visa, they're not an illegal alien.
They can have visas and be illegal. If they entered legally and found a job but have overstayed their visas then they are here illegally

I personally support immigration both legal and illegal because I believe that everyone has the God given rights to self improvement. If this means that one needs to move to another country, I believe that one should be free to do so. Plus, I believe that if one is not able to immigrate to a country legally, and one needs to immigrate anyway, I believe that illegal immigration is perfectly acceptable. Furthermore, at a certain level, immigration both legal and illegal is beneficial for the US economy. This is because immigrants provide more labor causing the prices of certain goods to lower. Also, the government receives more tax revenues that are never claimed back by all illegal immigrants who work with illegal papers and pay their taxes. I believe this is a sort of mutual benefit because immigrants are able to make money and provide for their families in third world countries, plus help the US economy as mentioned before.

I completely agree with Mariela Castillo. I just wish more people were as compassionate. Many natural born citizens do not understand the struggles of coming from a corrupt and poverty stricken country.
I was a volunteer in Cuba and Nicaragua. I did hard labor supporting the people and their governments. I am no hero. I did what I believe in. The people of those countries overthrew corrupt and repressive governments. That's what the people of Mexico and other countries need to do in order to improve their lives. Instead, they come here illegally and become parasites on our economy. To those of you who are here illegally, I say, go home and start a revolution, we did!!!!!!!!! I will then come to your country and do what I can to help. Thats compassion!!!!

What kind of a dream world do you live in ? I could take a long time to answer your post but I don't think you would understand much of what I say. There are things such as laws. I think you understand that, don't you? Those that come to this country illegally are guilty of breaking these laws. By breaking these laws they become felons. We don't want felons in this country and we do our best to send them home. If our politicians in Washington don't help us, we will get rid of them. The "we" I'm talking about are millions of people who came to this country legally, whether they be Mexicans, Germans, Irish, English, French, and the list goes on forever. Just because you don't like a law, you cant break it without accepting the consequences. Get a life.

Many illegal immigrants are using a fake social security number (fraudulent use of a social security is a felony) or a stolen social security number (identity theft is a felony). If they use a social security number they are subject to payroll tax withholding. Most of you who have ever filled out a W-2 Form know that you can manipulate income tax withholding to zero if you claim enough exemptions. So most illegal aliens pay very little income tax and even if they are not smart enough to fill out their W-2 they have very low earnings so income tax withholding would be trivial. Mainly they are paying FICA (Social Security and Medicare) which works out to about 8% of gross earnings.
A hypothetical illegal alien earning $10 per hour and working 2000 hours per year earning $20K would pay about $1600 in FICA.
If the illegal spends all of their remaining $18,400 and pays State sales tax at 8% then they would pay another $1,400 in sales tax. Of course this overstates their taxes because a big chunk of the $18,400 would go towards rent which is not subject to sales tax. In many states food is also not subject to sales tax.
If our hypothetical illegal alien files a tax return they will qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and get a refund larger than the $0.00 of income taxes they had withheld from their check. For a family of 4 with $20,000 earnings the EITC would be close to $1000. It is really welfare disguised as a tax refund.
So net of the EITC refund, our hypothetical illegal payed a whopping $2000 in taxes. But if their two kids were in school, they cost taxpayers roughly $8000 each to educate. There is no way an illegal comes close to paying their own way.
When we import low skilled poor people, they are a tax burden on more productive people and it defies common sense to argue otherwise. Our entire system is designed to transfer wealth from the rich to the poor. If you import poor people they are going to consume more taxes than they pay.
It is technically wrong to say illegals don't pay taxes. But to argue that illegals pay taxes so they should be allowed to stay is totally bogues because they consume far more tax dollars than they contribute.

I think they should all be deported anyway. It's basically a slap int he face to everyone how came here legally if you let the illegals stay. They have no right to be here. They get the right when they come here legally.
