Recently my local news station did a story on how your name can affect your life. It's certainly not a new concept. When I was a reporter some of my friends would talk about names and racism: if a job saw Susan versus Tameka they would more than likely call in Susan assuming she is white and disregard Tameka because they assume she is black. Well, I am in a unique situation...my name is greek, it's Phalia and I tend to talk rather proper on the phone (good grammer, blah blah) So I have gone into interviews and they would look past me and I'd say I'm Phalia or some would guess it was me but, my name is confusing. Basically I want to know, should it matter what your name is? Why can't a person be name Oranjello and still get a good job if he's intelligent and qualified. Do you guys no anyone going through "name issues?" What do you think?

I think some are very racist. This is how they would think:
Jesus=Mexican Mary=American Tlecasha=African American
So they will be racist, and some many not even get an interview because of their name...That's what I think
Good point maybe we should all name our kids Mary and Jack and see what happens!
My birth name is Kristen but I answer to Miniya. Yes, my name has made it more difficult for me to find good jobs but I refuse to go by anything other than Miniya. My name is important to me (it means "much is expected of her") and if someone refuses to hire me based on my name I refuse to let it bother me. It's their loss. If they're that shallow then they deserve to be stuck with a woman named Jill that doesn't know shit about her job.
