The question is, who do you think is the biggest threat to the Democratic Party? Here is my description of the many faces of the Democratic Party.
1. Democratic leadership council - tend to be northeastern or west coast liberals. Are mostly to be found in the northeast with a small fraction in the west and in the Midwest. Consist of suburban or richer neighborhood, where the people are more socially liberals. Are made up of upper middle class to upper class and are more corporate interest. Support free trade and believe in the free market, less regulation, and gets donation from big corporation. Think Hillary Clinton or Harold ford.
2. The blue dogs democrats - blue dogs are found in the southern and Midwestern states. They come from union base and small towns. Are hawk, against free trade, more socially conservative, and believe in fiscally conservative. Are more likely to be influence by union instead of corporate interests. Think Jim Webb and Jon tester.
3. The progressive causes - are commonly found in urban area, where there is a large group of minorities. Are socially liberal and fiscally liberals? Believe in gay rights, women rights, and more of liberal leaning politics. Can be found anywhere in the United States, more likely the northeast and west coast cities. Think Nancy Pelosi and openly gay barney frank.
so, who do you think is the biggest threat to the democratic party. is it the DLC who are selling their soul to the corporate interest instead of running a populist agenda? after all, the DLC did supported NAFTA and CAFTA, and are more likely to vote in favor of big corporate interest instead on the little guys. do you think that it is the blue dogs democrate that are destroying our party. they are more socially conservative, and were many of the one that voted in favor of the partial birth abortion ban and giving military authorization to george bush. they are very hawkish but they also represent unionize town that exist in the south and midwest. do you think that it is the progressive causes that are destroying the democratic party, because they tend to support very liberal principal. they are in favor of gay rights but they also voted against using military authorization in iraq and are peace activist.
