There was an article I stumbled across recently, which made me happy.
It is about an airline company offering cheap flights between Europe and America.
Here are some excerpts:
Transatlantic fares are set to tumble after Ryanair announced plans to offer flights to the US from £7 plus taxes within four years.
The low-cost carrier Zoom airlines has already stepped up the pressure on British Airways and Virgin Atlantic by announcing flights to New York from Gatwick on June 21, with prices from £129 one way, including all taxes, fees and charges.
Meanwhile, Bmi, which operates domestic and European services from Heathrow, is planning a link with United Airlines, to offer flights from the airport to various US cities.
ow-cost airlines are also heading farther afield. Last year, the no-frills carrier Oasis Hong Kong Airlines started flights between Gatwick and Hong Kong from £75 one way, excluding taxes. Meanwhile, holidaymakers can fly to India for the price of a television licence, following the launch in January of Air Sahara's return flight from Heathrow to Delhi for £127, plus taxes. From late summer, a new no-frills airline, AirAsia X, plans to fly from either Stansted or Manchester to Kuala Lumpur with prices from about £100 each way, excluding taxes.
These are all from a British website: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/main.jhtml?xml=/travel/2007/04/14/etryanair114.xml
To me anything that can break down distances and make other countries, and cultures, more accessible the non-rich is amazing.
