Abortion- A new look on things

My opinion is just one of many. I am not here to repeat myself or anyone else's views. I am writing to bring up a new point:
What is the point of abortion? Why do people wait so long (like several months) before getting an abortion?

Waiting so long is why people have such a problem with this concept. There are so many ridiculous arguments both for and against. In general I am against abortion as a whole, even if my views don't seem to show that.
We are not animals, we think and make progress. In the name of progress I bring into this argument the day after pill. I know it's probably been brought up in many arguments for and against or otherwise.
People bring up excuses for abortion such as incest, rape, or even just mistakes. The day after pill fixes these problems immediately. If you're raped, take the pill, get your period and get over it because you have no idea if you would have gotten pregnant. (And just as a reference, I want to make myself clear by saying that I was not telling those who have been raped to get over that, just the child part.) Don't wait until you know or not if you got pregnant because then it brings up issues and decisions to make. Make the decision. Let's say you don't want to go to the cops about rape, you can still go to your doctor the next day and tell them a story such as you were with your boyfriend and the condom broke, so you just want to make sure that you don't get pregnant and ask for the day after pill. Or, if you do choose to report it then the doctors should offer it to you(to my knowledge).
Accidents happen, but if you don't want to deal with a child make a choice soon enough not to have to choose abortion. Within a couple weeks decide to wait and keep the child, decide to give birth and send for adoption, or choose the pill soon enough. Women know how to solve this problem, but so many choose not to.
I myself, as I said am completely against abortion and if something ever happened I know that I would give birth and keep my baby. I wouldn't push my ideas on any of my friends, but if a friend were to be in this situation I would at least talk to them about all the pro's and con's of each scenario.

In the case of rape, it may be easier said than done. The victim may experience shock or try to block out and ignore the occurrence all together.

Of all people I know that very well. Thinking is hard after you've been hurt. You don't want to remember anything and sometimes you even ask yourself if it even happened. There are many cases, many excuses and in general as I mentioned this is just a thought. I am open to any and all insight to what I have written.
I almost forgot about that part, hmm. Thank you!

This is not a new point, and you need only do a Google search to find the answer.

89% of abortions happen in the first trimester. 10% happen in the early second trimester. Only 1% of abortions are done more than halfway through pregnancy, and that's usually because women have trouble getting enough money and time off and dealing with other anti-choice restrictions, or because the pregnancy was originally wanted but went terribly wrong.

Women don't twiddle their thumbs through months of pregnancy then waltz in for a late term abortion out of laziness. That is an anti-choice myth.

Waiting so long is why people have such a problem with this concept.

You have it backwards. People have such a problem with women controlling their own bodies that they make up ridiculous lies like this as a half-assed attempt to justify their sexism. Don't fall for it.

People bring up excuses for abortion such as incest, rape, or even just mistakes. The day after pill fixes these problems immediately.

The morning-after pill is only about 89% effective. While it is indeed a useful tool to reduce abortion rates, it can never prevent all unwanted pregnancies.

I myself, as I said am completely against abortion and if something ever happened I know that I would give birth and keep my baby.

I should certainly hope that you never find yourself in need of an abortion, but you really never can know for sure until it happens. What if you were raped? Homeless? Critically ill or seriously disabled? Addicted to drugs? Running from an abusive ex? Carrying a dead or dying fetus? Fifty years old and ready to retire? Women face these situations every day, and it's insulting to paint them all as lesser women than yourself. Have a little compassion for your fellow women.

My first problem: We are animals, so saying that we're not animals provides anyone an opportunity to bring up a point that almost everybody is aware of.

Second problem: The day after pill is only effective when taken within 72 hours of intercourse. Many women become pregnant while taking contraceptives, and running to the doctor everytime they have sex is impractical. I'm not going to go to the doctor everytime I have sex even when I'm taking appropriate birth control methods, and I don't know of any woman that would.

Third problem: To the pro-life movement, the day after pill is a form of abortion, as it terminates the metabolism of a concieved cluster of cells. Physicians may refuse to prescribe the day after pill, and if one's PCP does so it can be very costly to find a physician that will. It is also highly unlikely that a woman would be able to locate a new physician and get an appointment within 72 hours.

Your argument provides a very good point that many ignore, but these issues give it some flaws. It would be a great argument against late abortions, but not too effective against early abortions.

I love abortion. Read more here:
