I am beginning to wonder if we are letting to many things slip by us. Are we to caught up in our own lives to pay attention to the distress of others. I have asked myself this question, many times before but I ask again because of the folowing article found in today's USA Today:
Newspapers in Florida and Illinois have new information this morning on the cancer doctor who threw his children to their deaths from a Miami Beach hotel and then jumped, killing himself.
In Miami, Edward Van Dyk's parents tell local media that their son seemed delusional in a phone call days before the deaths, with him telling them "his children were in danger of being sexually abused by strangers." But colleagues at a cancer conference held the next day say they noticed nothing wrong.
Meanwhile, in the family's Illinois town, "neighbors wept while others sat speechless, expressing sympathy for Van Dyk's wife," the Chicago Tribune reports. "Authorities searching the family's home, which is 20 miles north of St. Louis, did not find a suicide note but took Van Dyk's computer."
The parents admit that he didn't sound like himself. There have been several cases besides this one in which a heiness crime was committed and there was signs but no one locked on to it. I am guilty of not paying attention to signs myself. I went home and left my friend with her uncle her raped her. He was looking...strange but I left and started second guessing myself. I will always live with the regret that I could have prevented it somehow. Why do we second guess; what don't we pay attention to the signs?
IF nobody sees the signs what can you do. I think we are all looking out for eachother but we have to want help in order to recieve it.
Well, I guess you could have done something. But how in the heck would you know what? Maybe you have prevented many things without knowing it. It's not your fault, don't blame yourself
Sometimes people just dont know or understand the signs when they are looking at them until it is too late.
