The fur trade is an awful institution in our world that tortures and kills inoccent animals to get their fur to make clothing and acsesories. This may have been necessary long ago when humans need animal skin to stay warm and sheltered. But today we have many synthetic fabrics as well as polyester and cotton that could easily replace the usage of fur.
The best way to solve this issue right now would be for the United Nations to declare the fur trade illegal. This would save many animals from torture and death for our benefit. While this wouldn't solve the issue completely, because not every nation in the world is a part of the United Nations, it would make the fur trade illegal in many countries.
The fur trade is inhumane. It hurts so many animals everyday just for the benefit of human beings who don't need the fur due to the progress in the clothing industry with the newer materials they use.
This may create a black market for the fur trade in many countries but at least the number of animals that are being treated inhumanely will be lowered. We can make a difference and help these animals that are so precious to our world. All we need to do is make it an important issue and change will eventually come.

While you stand for a good cause (the protection of animals), it's more complicated than that, and not because of the big companies that do do what you're claiming (sources are a good thing, especially on potentially touchy subjects, by the way).
Native Americans, Inuit, even regular citizens, also use the fur trade to supplement their incomes. The difference is, though, is that the animals are neither treated inhumanely, nor is it just their fur that they're using. For many of the small traders, the trade is not only a source of income, but also a source of food. Now, the food aspect is first priority, but it's the nature of many of these people to use the whole animal out of respect for it. The trade allows them to see to it that various parts of the animal are used while at the same time, gaining other commodities.
