Landmines are disruptive

“Landmines and explosive remnants of war continue to kill or injure 15,000 people a year, many of them children, who are more likely to pick up and play with unfamiliar objects.” “Last year alone we had 65 new child victims,” said Sharon Ball, UNICEF mine action officer. “A child victim will need a new prosthesis every four months especially if they’re living in a rural area because of wear and tear – and that’s a dramatic cost for a family coming from a poor area.” These quotes are from UNICEF’s website. I remember doing a landmines’ project in 10th grade for my debate class. I never did realize how many actually die from landmines. It is a shame win weapons from a conflict are left behind, and the innocent suffer long after the conflict is over with. One of my main goals I have said is to improve prosthetics. I want to make prosthetics exactly as functional as human limbs are. It saddens me that a child will be playing with his/her toy and all of sudden, poof; the landmine goes off. That child’s life will be changed forever. Someone needs to find a way to clear all landmines off the ground. There has to be a safe and an effective way to do this. If there are any questions/comments, please post them. Thanks for reading.

I'm sorry I know that they have robots now to defuse IED's, but they are expensive. (THe military channel)Maybe they will come up with litle Roombas like the carpets sweepers bots that can do land mines and not get destoyed. That would be sweet.
