This song is a Spanish-language version of the U.S. National Anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner," originally written in English by Francis Scott Key in the form of a poem. It was translates and recorded by various artists such as Wyclef Jean, hip-hop star Pitbull and Carlos Ponce and Olga Tanon from Puerto Rico. “Nuestro Himno” means “Our Anthem” in English. “Our” refers to the million of Latinos in the US legally or not. The purpose of translating the National Anthem was to make it available to more people.
This song, however; is not a faithful and literal Spanish translation of the words to "The Star-Spangled Banner," but is a hip-hop-style remix with new raps and chants. The remix version of this song contains several lines in English that condemn U.S. immigration laws. Among them: "These kids have no parents, cause all of these mean laws... let's not start a war with all these hard workers, they can't help where they were born.” So when I heard this song last year in various radio stations, I felt the solidarity that other Americans were showing toward the fight of immigration rights.
I like this song because it is a political statement saying that Latinos both legal and illegal are part of the country and that immigration laws shouldn't be harsh on people who contribute to it. I believe in this because I consider myself an immigrant because I left the country at the age of two and did not come back until the age of 12. Like my parents who are immigrants, I experienced what it feels to be an immigrant and it is not easy. A big part of my family is here and they do nothing else than work, hence, contributing to the US economy. I, considering myself an immigrant, am also contributing by doing community serve and other things. I am really sure that other young teens here in the US who are really immigrants contribute to this country the same way I do. This song says it all and that's why I like it.

Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN
"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
I agree with this wholeheartedly and believe that every nation should respectively have this attitude towards its immigrants. You are not a Mexican American, you are either Mexican or American. You are not Polish American, you are either a Pole in America or an American. There is no halfway on this. And if you want to sing the national anthem in Spanish --get out. The immigrants from Poland, Russia, Japan, and China do not sing it in their own languages, they sing it in English. No exceptions.
Also, do not call interlopers "illegal immigrants". Using the term "immigrant" to describe them is an insult to all the decent people who came here legallly and in good faith. They are not immmigrants, they are interlopers.
Did you know that Mexico annually deports more interlopers than the US does?
In Mexico it is a felony(a federal crime) to be an interloper.
In Mexico by law hiring preference is given to natives.
You can be sent to prison for helping an interloper.
In Mexico, foreigners may be barred from the country if their presence upsets "the equilibrium of the national demographics," when foreigners are deemed detrimental to "economic or national interests," when they do not behave like good citizens in their own country, when they have broken Mexican laws, and when "they are not found to be physically or mentally healthy."
Immigrants may be deported without due process.
So when I hear Mexican interlopers crying that our laws are unfair and "mean-spirited"(how lame) all I can do is laugh and say "you hypocrite".
But assuming that I am a Mexican is just stereotypical and insulting. Moreover, to call me a Mexican interloper and a hypocrite is even worst. For your information, I am an American just like you. This post wasn't meant to start a fight, if anything, I was just trying to inform that there is a translation of the National Anthem in Spanish and the meaning behind it. Besides, this isn't the first time that the National Anthem has been translated into other language. In 1861, it was translated into German and Latin. It has also been translated into Yiddish by Jewish immigrants and into French by Cajuns. The Cajuns are an ethnic group mainly living in Louisiana, consisting of the descendants of Acadian exiles and peoples of other ethnicities with whom the Acadians eventually intermarried on the semitropical frontier.

incluirá a los undocmentados quienes no tienen ningún dereche de estar. ¿Quienes son los ilegales a criticarnos o nuestras leyes? ¿Cómo se atreven a insultarnos así? ¿Tiene la tierra de Cánada el privilegio o derecho de contarnos nuestras maldades a fin de que no cambiemos por ellos? No. Para titularla < indica que se puede compartir, pero no es verdad. No comparte el extranjero de ninguna parte conmigo en la bandera ni en el gobernar de los Estadosunidenses.
Pero lo más que me insulta--lo cual que insulta a esta tierra linda de libertad para los quien sean NATURALIZADOS--es que la tradujeran en español y meterle versos insubordinados insultantes a nuestro himno en sí.
¿Quién de nosotros ESTADOSUNIDENSES quisere que personas de tal manera y modal habite entre nosotros? Ciertamente no yo.
I really enjoyed reading this blog. . .Ber Interesting title. Although I love having the diversity in this country I do feel we need immigration laws. We all should have the opportunity to live the way we want to live but crossing the border in an underground trail isn't the right approach. While I'm saying this is wrong I'm not saying the Americans are right either. We need to sit down and set a compromise that will benefit both countries (Mexico). For the individuals who don't want to follow then whatever punishment is set happens!
