News Flash: Barack Obama is not black

A relative e-mailed an Op/Ed piece to me the other day that was written by Pat Sajak. The host of Wheel of Fortune is a conservative & likes to share his views. The gist of the piece was that voting against Barack Obama should not be considered racist. It's possible to simply look at what Barack Obama stands for & decide not to vote for him. He pointed out that Obama supporters wouldn't vote for black conservatives like Alan Keyes or JC Watts if they decided to run for president. I agreed with most of what Sajak said, until he said how great it was that a black man was running for president. I wrote back to my relative & pointed out that Barack Obama is not black. He's bi-racial. It seems that everyone has forgotten - or is trying to obscure the fact that - his mother was white. In other words, we're only acknowledging one-half of Obama's ethnic background. It seems the other half doesn't count. Are we saying he's a black man because he spent 20 years in black church? Even his most ardent supporters are telling us that he's black. Shouldn't we be celebrating the fact that he's the successful child of interracial parents?

Barack Obama is supposed to be our first "post-racial" presidential candidate. I'd be willing to accept that if everyone would stop saying that Barack Obama is a "black man." It was Dr. Martin Luther King who said that we should be judged not by the color of our skin but by the content of our character. And when I look at the person who is considered to be the most liberal member of the US Senate, I don't see someone I want to vote for. Barack Obama likes to say that John McCain is running for George Bush's third term. Well, as far as I'm concerned, Barack Obama is running for Jimmy Carter's second term. I was around for Carter's first term, & let me tell you it was an absolute disaster.

I actually thought ithis post was funny... sick huh?

Isn't this nit picking just exasterbating the racial divides??? Maybe not racial but furthering discrimination?

It makes sense that we would only look and half his background, he only want us to look at half his ...foreground...

Here's another point: How can we have a serious debate about the issues if any disagreement with Obama's positions are considered racist? "I don't like Barack Obama's position on healthcare reform." Response: "Oh yeah? Well you're a racist!!!" Debate over.

We need to have a serious debate about the issues. However, it won't take place if Barack Obama's supporters keep playing the race card when the discussion doesn't go their way.

Last week Jesse Jackson was caught on tape stating that he thought Obama was talking down to black people. He also said that he wanted to cut Obama's testicles off. Talk show pundits have been trying figure out why Jesse Jackson made those comments. Here's a thought: Maybe the good reverend doesn't like the idea of someone who is half white talking down to black people!!!

He's just jealous that Obama is successful where he wasn't. And he's probably mad at Barack's father's day speech where he talked about fathers doing what they were supposed to do, since Jackson has an illegitimate child.

Obama is a person running for president. He is young and of mixed parenting so what. He could not make a stand during his time as a senator. People like to see what they want. They see him as a black man because they want a black man to be the president. I will not vote for him because I think his ideas make him sound like a socialist. I like living in a democratic government and wish it to stay that way. My opinion has nothing to do with the color of his skin. Why would it?

No one has forgotten that he is biracial. Everyone remembers what country we live in. In America people still pretty much use the one drop rule. You must remember that race is a social construct, so his actual genetic make up does not matter. His appearance matters, and his appearance is that of a Black man. Tons of biracial people identify as Black, Hispanic, Asian, etc. Historically in this country, whiteness was(and is) a privilege. So whiteness has strict criteria. Think about it. There are Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Arabs, etc., of all different skin tones. But there really isn't variation in skin tones for White people. I doubt anyone actually thinks of Obama as white. He is black because his experience is that of a black man.

If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed...nothing shall be impossible unto you. - Matthew 17:20

Obama is black because in America you are what ever your father is and his father is black. Also when people look at Obama what do they see a black man not a bi-racial man. Throughout his life he has not been half way accepted because he is half white, no he has been treated as a black man in America. So when you think he should be considered bi-racial he can not because America will still see his skin color. And all black people are not one hundred percent all are mixed with something and that is what black is considered a melting pot of different races that has come together to unite. If Barack is not black than who is? if you are going by the fact that Barack's mother is white than all black people will not be black. Now if you say Barack is not African American than that is more substanable to understand, but being black he is.

i gave my son a box of crayons now he knows his colors. Does my son like one of those crayons better then any other no they all are equally enjoyable to him. Why does it matter what race he is he is still a man and far from prefect just like the rest of us.
