Premonition

Nervous energy that consumes your waking hours. A feeling of dread that has you constantly looking over your shoulder. Unprompted thoughts about what would happen if you died suddenly and without warning.

One week ago, prom night. In a car on the way home through a severe thunderstorm. The boy, usually cheerful and optimistic, suddenly makes an unnerving statement to the girl.

"Something really bad is going to happen this week."

Reluctance to go anywhere spreads throughout the school, overshadowed by stress over classes and anticipation over sports.

Thursday, exhaustion and irritation is devoured by nerves.

Same girl and her friend sit at lunch, not talking much. They are too fidgety, too shaky, and too worried. Friend says that she has this itching feeling that something big is going to happen. The girl agrees that she has felt that way all day. Remark from prom night is forgotten.

Friend is reluctant to leave for her tennis match. She had not told her friend that she had been thinking about what would happen to her family and friends if she were to die without warning. Something about the bus makes her nervous. But she goes anyway. As soon as the bus starts moving, she nearly panics. She doesn't know why, but the bad feeling she had is multiplied by the vehicle, and the thought of being on the highway around all those other vehicles full of people. She prays the entire ride, wants to cry when crossing the bridge despite her love for crossing them, and the bus arrives safely at the opponent's school.

In tennis, all is forgotten, and the nervous energy goes away. The tennis courts are safe.

That night, a car carrying three people, all friends of the girl, is hit by an SUV while pulling onto the highway. All three were killed.

The girl is in shock. Remark from prom night is remembered, conversation at lunch is recalled. Her friends died, and somehow, they had known something was going to happen.

Tennis friend did not think too much of it. She comforted the girl, being there for her throughout the following school day. Only after sleeping on it did the significance of the entire incident hit her.

She is familiar with bad feelings and nervous energy. Twice they have saved her family from a bad accident from a tire about to burst. Once, they warned her of a tornado near her home. All three times, God was turned to, and the bad feeling went away. Only once, in the incident of the tornado, were people killed.

Until now. She recalls her feelings and her thoughts from Thursday. The conclusion she reached shocks her. Without realizing it, she knew that someone was going to die. And she knew that it was going to be in a car accident. On the highway.

The idea frightens her, and she finds herself shaky and unable to talk to anyone, not even the person who she usually feels she can talk to about absolutely anything.

The three having the feelings of premonition have one thing in common besides being friends. All three are Christians. And all three subconsciously knew that something terrible would happen.

Coincidence? Or does God sometimes warn His children when a tragedy is about to strike?

Good story, though I disagree about your last line, though mostly on the point of view of where the premonitions came from.

It's a true story, too...
I'm just kinda really freaked out.
And it's alright if you don't agree with my last line...I'm just getting these thoughts off my mind...it's how I deal with things.

And that's comin' at ya' from yer local redneck hippie.

No problem, I know I still get a little freaked out when I get premonitions, especially of tragic things.

It doesn't help that we've lost so many people from my high school class recently. They're all such good kids, too...

It also doesn't help that I'm suprememly paranoid...

This could be an example of good instinct or intuition. Animals certainly have these skills, so perhaos some people do too. However, it could just be paranoia leading to a coincidence. If you live a paranoid life and then something bad happens, then is it fair to say that it was a real premonition.

The whole thing still scares me...
I see what you mean with the intuition and instincts, but...I don't think it has anything to do with my paranoia, because my paranoia leaves me with a completely diffeent feeling...plus, there were too many people who felt it...
I just found out that a lot of other people were also getting a bad feeling about being on the road...

And that's comin' at ya' from yer local redneck hippie.

But paranoia can be contagious. I want believe you that such a premonition is possible, but I'm skeptical and pieces of your story can be explained away especially if everyone was talking to each other and spreading the ideas of something bad happening. It could just be a coincidence...

Could be...
I was freaked while I wrote this.
But people talking to each other wouldn't explain feeling it myself...I hadn't heard of anyone else feeling like something was going to happen until afterwards...
No one talks to me...
And there was no explanation for why I freaked getting on the bus...
>.>
Oh well.
It's happened, and there's nothing to do about it now...

And that's comin' at ya' from yer local redneck hippie.

I have had several premonitions and they have come true. I had one about my mom dying when I was 18 and she did. I had one about the war in iraq in 2000. I couldn't put it together. People were on buses and the buses where being blown up by suicide bombers and alot of other things. This was in a form of a dream. I have tried to shut this ability off as of now.

Thanks for bringing this story to light though.:)
