How many? How many shooting will there be before I graduate? I thought that I wouldn't have to worry about school shootings after high school, but apparently, I was wrong.
Does anyone see a problem with this?
School should be an area of security. Whenever there is a dead silence in the hall, I shouldn't think, "Wow, I hope nothing big is about to go down because this is the perfect opportunity." I often scan the halls, looking at the faces of my peers, wondering who is more likely to open fire in the halls. Perfect opportunity. Crowded hall, laughing students. No one would see them reach into their pocket and pull out the weapon.
Welcome to High School, 2008. What about College, 2009?
College is supposed to be the best time of my life! The moment when you're finally away from home. You're ready to make your own decisions. But now I have to worry about whether today will be my last because of some coward's vengeance? It's insane, and someone has to make a stand about it. Maybe we should take that extra five seconds to smile and wave at passersbys. Try to be as friendly and welcoming as possible. Something has to be done, I reiterate.
Where does the stand begin? It begins with me. It begins with you. It begins with everyone who does not want to see another innocent life lost.
Which way will we go? I don't know, but that does not mean I will not find out. With cooperation and hard work, anything is possible.

It is so sad that we now live in a world where students have to fear school shootings. I wonder what schools can do to these devastating situations.
The fear you carry is a more than sad reality that comes along with it, I feel really sorry for all of you that are lingering in this situation.
Teens that refer to such actions (killing) are mainly suffering from a lack of affection and a deep fear they can not release.
Add some continuous frustration to that and they pop in the head!
Mostly the one’s that are being teased, insulted and beaten up are the one’s that pop and eventually refer to such behaviour.
They mainly carry some sort of shame that has affected their self-esteem in such ways it is difficult to be understood by outsiders. They actually are driven by their fear to put an end to their own live, but the message they want to leave behind while doing so is brought in a form of vengeance!
The moment they pop in the head and go on a killing raid they actually want to inflict (release) that pain they have carried for so long, upon all that they come across.
Adding or enforcing security is not the solution!
A youngster that is constantly being used by many other fellow students to vent their own frustration upon, becomes sick!
It’s like beating a dog on a daily basis, not having a home platform to release or get understanding because of a situation wherein similar behaviour is inflicted upon this youngster, is the perfect nourishment to break this youngster apart in more than one way.
Not monitoring these realities in which many youngsters are dwelling is asking for trouble,
Funny enough, It is actually quite easy to take measures that will prevent school shootings to take place.
Take care,
It is sad that this stuff is happening.
But even if you were at one of these college where the shootings occured your odds of surviving unscathed are excellent. Only a tiny percentage were victims.
And generally, you are more likely to get hit by a car while crossing the street than get shot at college.
Buck up! You can't live your life in fear.
It would be rational to get some firearms training and a concealed carry permit. It disgusts me to keep reading about these sick bastards being able to nonchalantly reload while their victims wait to be slaughtered like sheep. People should be shooting back.
I agree with the poster above. I think more students at my school have died in auto accidents/suicides/whatever than died at VA Tech, since I've been here.
You can't live in fear of a school shooting. There's no point to it.
