In my moral issues class, a group presented on the use of steroids in professional sports.
Because it's a philosophy class, they shared the views of philosophers such as Aristotle. Some believe that the use of drugs or alcohol is genetic and you're "destined" to take part in these activities. Others say that it's self-induced and that you, yourself, are choosing to use drugs.
What I found interesting was that some people believe that using steroids is justified because they are coerced into doing it. The reasons they gave were that "they have to make money" and "a lot of the other players are doing it, too". I find this pathetic really... You, as an adult, cannot be coerced into doing things like this especially for the reasons stated plus they make so much more money than a lot of us combined.
Another kid said that "well no one says anything about the drugs that musicians use, or the alcohol that actors/actresses consume... We watch sports for entertainment, not the athletes abilities." Yes, we're watching sports for entertainment but the abilities of the players are what make it entertaining...right? And Uhhh... the atheletes are signing contracts that prohibit the use of any [illegal] enhancement. Celebrities and the average citizens use alcohol and drugs because they have not signed contracts for what they do in their spare time. Athletes use these steroids to enhance their "ability" when they are playing their sport.
I don't know the "facts" but from what I heard in class, I was just amazed at how people justify the use of illegal substances...if anyone has any opposing views or just an opinion...feel free to share; I'd love to hear =)

It's the Bridge Mentality, really. People are bleating sheep who don't want to take responsibilty for their own actions.
In my opinion, steroids are like false advertising; an athlete uses something to artificially boost their abilities, which means they are showing people a false image of themselves.
