Heaven: Will we have sex there?

I've heard this question thrown around from time to time and it always makes me laugh. I can't figure out if some people can't bear to think of a realm without sex or if they think that sex is the best thing ever and must be in heaven. When I think of heaven, sex does not even enter into the question.

However, there is something to it. I see the experience of sex as just a tiny fraction of what is must feel like to reunify with our Creator. Our relationships with our significant others parallel to our connection to the Divine, but I don't think our human minds can even conceive of such an eternally euphoric place. Why do we try to fit the afterlife into our nice neat human conceptions?

We do the same thing with hell too. We imagine utterly evil and foul scenes filled with pain and agony. And don't forget the fires--lots and lots of burning fires. Is holding onto these views of the options in the afterlife doing us any good? Does it encourage us in the wrong way to desire a happy ending and be scared to death of burning alive? Is this genuine spirituality? I believe it does a disservice to our Creator whoever He or She may be. I don't bother wondering what heaven will be like. I trust that the Divine has come up with something infinitely greater than anything I could wrap my head around. I don't bother with hell either. What's the point?

There's also the question of whether we'll be connected to our spouses in the afterlife. Is having sex with the one we love for all eternity really the best that we can do? Marriage is an earthly concept and rather limited. I wait for a place where everyone can unite together and go beyond the confines of marriage. I've heard other wonder if heaven will be boring. Do we expect God to have a detailed schedule of board games, field trips and never-ending smorgasboards? Humanity will unite with God. What could be better than this?

So who cares about sex? I'm fine with not knowing all the details and waiting to be surprised. I've never been one to ruin a good surprise anyway.

Honestly, i've thought of that before. "Whoever he or she is" I would think of someone like you knowing that God is male but maybe you don't believe in God. That question does make me laugh but it is one of many questions that people ask about Heaven. For one thing though, it says in the Bible what Heaven will be like. In Revelations. We will constantly praise God. Is'nt that the hope of every christian? To get to praise God. That will be an amazing day!

Heaven will surely be an unimaginable place. I can think of no better way to spend eternity that to be with God and sing praises.

Just one thing though, what makes you think that I would be the kind of person to "know God is male?" The point of my heaven blogs is to admit to myself that there is so much that we don't know. Saying that God is male is limiting. Thinking of God as a father is a helpful metaphor, but I don't think it is sufficient. I said what I said ("whoever He or She is") to just state that God is bigger than our human conceptions just like Heaven is. This might be my next post!

I was having a discussion about this earlier. I do not believe we can assign human characteristics to an omnipotent being, so therefore under our limited understanding god would be classified as an it, especially considering that it would be without a penis as it has no counterpart.

To be fair to Americangirlinchina I will submit to the idea that even that isn't proven and we can't possibly know if god has a penis or not(he may just like the feel of one), or vagina for that matter. I cant remember who it was that said it in my other blog but we compromised and decided to call god a "shit" to satasfy all, the he/she/it people.

My idea is that an orgasm is a tiny glimpse of what Heaven will be like.

That was a Grey's Anatomy episode. As I recall, it actually wasn't a pleasant experience for the girl suffering from spontaneous orgasms...

I believe it really isn't fair not to be able to be with someone you truly loved here on earth in heaven. Not sexually but emotionally and able to be together with them. But that is just my thought. I have read 2 books that have details of 1 person going to heaven and one going to hell. The heaven one was called 90 minutes or seconds in Heaven. The other 23 Minutes in Hell by Bill wiese.
The one in heaven talked about how it was nothing you could ever imagine on earth. He said your hearing was amplifed, and your sight was so much that you could see things unimaginable. I am not quite sure if people have had hallucinations or things like this really happened. But who knows.

As for sex in Heaven, I don't know. If you think about it supposedly sex is suppose to be with someone you are married to. Well if there is no marriage in heaven then maybe there is no sex either.

It really would be cool if heaven was how each person pictured it in their mind.

At first, it doesn't seem fair that I won't be "married" to my husband for all eternity. However, when I think of the state of perfection in Heaven and how all those there will be connected as one with God, marriage to one person pales in comparison.

all i have to say is that don't think there will be sex in heaven, because will offer so many greater things that people won't need sex to feel good about themselves.

There will be no need to feel insecure about anything. It's Heaven. Why would we feel unattractive, stupid, unpopular, etc? On the flip side, why would we feel prideful or angry? I think that there will be no need for our crazy human emotions.

I believe mediums can be a crock of shit but this freaked me out. My mom's friend went to a medium and the medium stated that my mom was sorry that she had to leave it was not her choice. She said that she was in a place were it was very calm and there was no argueing. The medium said that she was there with her mother, father,my cousin (who was shot by his uncle when he was 19), and great grandmother. The medium would have never known that. He did not show her a picture of my mom just brought a letter and kept it in his pocket. She brought up things that happened between them. He was her shopping buddy. It freaked me out.

I agree that there will be no need for crazy human emotions either.

A few potentially stimulating responses:

- How can you prove Heaven exists?
- How can you prove God exists?
- How can you prove that this "God" is a male?
- Why would God need a sex organ?
- AND MY BIG ONE: WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO SPEND ALL ETERNITY SIGNING AND WORSHIPING A DEITY?

I'D RATHER HAVE SEX...

I can't provide you with any solid proof. All I have is my life and my experiences which have guided me to believe that God and Heaven exists. I don't think God has a gender nor sex organs. God is bigger to me than such things.

I don't want to spend an eternity worshipping some diety. I long, after my time here is over, to reunite with our Creator and be in community with the souls there.

If proof and answers to such questions are what you want, I can't give you that.

I don't know if you have heard of the Intelligent Design Theory but if you are looking for proof of God existence through science, there is a great deal of proof listed with this theory. The theory doesn't specifically state that God exists but that our universe and life on our planet exists because it was created by an intelligent being. If you look at molecular biology and see how intricate a single cell and all its parts work, it suggests that these cells had to be created by an intelligent being. Our DNA contains billions of codes of data that is essential for us to exist. If any one of these parts are not properly functioning we would not have the ability to exist. Its absurd to think that the immense data that every one of our cells hold exists just because we POPPED into existence with no rhyme or reason as suggested by the theory of evolution. Evolution suggest that all life started as a single cell and the diversity of life spread out from these cells mutating. The major problem with this theory is that if any part of these cells were to mutate, the cell would not have the ability to exist because each part of the cell is essential for their existence. Another problem with this theory is that evolution suggest that these mutations happen slowly over millions of years with very slight changes over and over. With the Cambrian explosion there where billions of diverse life forms suddenly in existence over a very short period of time. This burst of life during a short period of Earths history disproves the evolutionary theory because of the short time frame that these life forms came into existence. A great majority of scientists, especially molecular biologists, are suggesting that the Intelligent Design Theory upholds all of the tests. Because I believe in God this theory makes a great deal of sense to me.

As far as sex in heaven, there really is no need for sex in heaven because the reason for sex is procreation, to allow new life to be born on Earth. I think that there will be greater things in heaven that provide us with these feelings of euphoria on a much greater scale that will remain unimaginable until we reach heaven, a gift given to us through Jesus.

I had an awesome professor in college that gave pretty unbiased representation of creationism, evolution and Intelligent Design Theory. I totally think that science can give us evidence of God's creation of the Earth. I especially love the watchmaker metaphor--if you have a watch and you see all the intricate gears and movements, there must have been an intelligent inventor that made it.

I'm not so aware of the molecular biology side of the argument though. Thanks for sharing, I think I'll look into it a bit more. Can you suggest any good reading?

www.progressiveu.org/blog/americangirlinchina

American Girl in China,

There are a slew of good books regarding the Intelligent Design Theory and molecular biology. One of the better books that are now a part of a series is by Lee Strobel called "The Case for a Creator."

It sounds like your professor was teaching about irreducibly complex systems when he was talking about the watchmaker metaphor. The book talks about irreducibly complex system using a mouse trap as a metaphor in the book. If your looking for more good material, this book along with Lee Strobels' other books are a great read!

I had a really difficult time trying to speak to non-believers, trying to give them proof of God's existence, and these books did wonders not only providing me with concrete scientific evidence for His existence but also re-affirming my own beliefs.

I'd like to share more ideas with you if possible! Let me know if you would like to exchange email addresses.

I've always wondered about it. I've heard everything from "yes", to "no...we'll all be happy, androgynous, Spock-drones".

I guess it plays in my mind because I'm 42 year old virgin (okay, you can get up from the floor and stop laughing now) who is faced with a serious health concern (Myeloma....late stages....now in the process of a radical stem cell technique developed by the French and Mayo Clinic). I've always wanted a wife and family and I guess that's not going to happen. I'm bummed at God right now and the Devil is tempting me to give into lust. All of this fuss for a few minutes of bilogical bliss.

Before I read the infamous Matthew text (no marriage in the next life), I thought I could always find a "soul-mate" in Heaven....a lady who was in a similar condition as me and wanted companionship. Buzzzzzz!!!! Wrong answer boyo!!!! Okay, how about a kiss or a snuggle....Buzzzzzz.... He he..., how about holding hands? Buzzzzzzz!!!!! Oh dear, I guess I'll be the loveable loser in Heaven as I'm am on Earth? At least I'll be consistant. Sex for reproduction? Buzzzzzz. Sex for mutual pleasure? Buzzzzzz. Dang, I'm getting 2nd degree burns from this electric buzzing. Ouch.

Would I'd be able to ask God in Heaven for such things or will I be "brainwashed" to the point of having no free will? Can I at least have a salad before the steak?

Hey, look on the bright side. I've heard that virgins get bonus points at the pearly gates.

BUZZZZZZZZ....oh well, guess not.

All we get from Scripture is that in Heaven, we will be without bodies.

On the New Earth, we will have new sinless bodies.

I think there will be sex and possibly marriage, but that is just my opinion.

I THINK that because, pre-sin, there was Adam and Eve. Sex was part of the design before there was sin.

But as far as the future? Not sure. No one can say for sure. Anyone who says they can say for sure is either decieved themselves or just want to appear smart.
