6 year old girl gang raped in congo

blacksparrow's picture

my psychology professor spoke of a 6 year olf girl being raped in congo. i was shocked and decided to research alittle.

Rape is being used as weapon against villagers in congo by rebal forces.
Women and children are not only being raped but they are being mutilated as men force sticks and guns into their vaginas. many of these women are dying because they can't get proper medical treatment. Rape is being used to oppress these people and because of the stigma many women do not come forward.

When i researched this i found an article on CNN's web sitehttp://www.thenation.com/doc/20040308/goodwin
i would really suggest people reading because it can inform much better than me replaying what im reading.

i was shocked by this article but this quote i found to be important in its truth...

"Conduct a straw poll among Americans who are usually well informed and few know of the vicious campaign of sexual violence against women in the DRC. Many are even unaware that the country is six years into a brutal conflict, in which up to 4.7 million people have died--the highest number of fatalities in any conflict since World War II. Or that six countries--Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Angola and Namibia--have been fighting proxy wars in the DRC, and helping to plunder the country's tremendous mineral wealth to fill their coffers. "

Americans, including myself are not opening our eyes to the horrific things that are occuring everyday to people in other countries. i also was searching for something i could do to help and i found this web site http://www.ushmm.org/museum/exhibit/online/congojournal/?gclid=CLio7IyCy...

It’s amazing to see how the media in the US is being managed for you all, only to see what they want you to see…

This is common practice in the many warzones all over the African continent.

To have a better understanding of what is happening there, this movie brings out a realistic view upon it all.

Another fine example of worldly ignorance.

To witness it yourself will instantly take away all the illusions you might carry…even the ones of your own future,,, because it enlightens one in more than one way.

Great post, ;-)

Wait a second,

So you're telling me the media is controlling what we see. Uhm, what makes you think a multimillion dollar AMERICAN movie would show you the light? lol...

We know this is going on, and honestly what do you want the US to do?

I'm sick and tired of people thinking we own the world.

We can't just decide to step in at every moment when something goes a rye.

I know that you're going to bring up WWII, ofcoure I mean with moderation.

I mean we have people like BONO, speaking about human rights... Can we be serious?

Why do we even have a singer? A SINGER? get involved politically, he should have no bearing on anything..

I agree that this stuff shouldn't be going on, but we already are hated my many countries for our bully attitude.

Maybe some type of negotiation should occur, rather then us just imposing ourselves on their turf.

I agree with what the government has been doing about Darfur, and nations like this.

This is no easy fix.

Many things in our lives are interconnected, although most amongst us can only relate and believe what is happening right in front of our eyes,

People don’t hate Americans, some individuals do, but the majority of countries don’t hate Americans. A mixture of dislike might be present for reasons we all know. The constant lack of diplomacy together with the spreading of continuous lies in order to obtain what they have in mind is really something to worry about.

Thank you for this obscene, grotesque, and highly realistic article. I was nearly sick from reading it. The shock of it though woke my brain up to the realities of life.

Something about the comments made in the article about the lack of coverage was unsettling. I haven't checked CNN or anything like that yet to confirm, but I found it odd that I read that just after wondering what angle of bias they were trying to spin on the article. After all, it seemed to speak a shocking truth. As a reaction, I never trust news sources completely, but them mentioning that it was a CNN affect, or racial and ethic bias made me really think about the news.

I also think of humanity in terms of profound sadness and anger. If this conflict isn't made known through large media sources, then hopefully world of mouth will spread the cry of outrage soon.

to weezyf

speaking out against something that we feel is wrong is not trying to take over another country. protests are what bring negotiations about. do you think these rebels are just going to decide that what their doing is wrong. no. someone has to make them stop and if americans speaking against it pushes their governement to relize this then im going to keep screaming. im not saying its right to go over to another country with an army and push our views on them....

but honestly can you just imagine for a second having sticks and guns pushed up your ass (since your a male )repeatedly by a group of men and then seriously say that you hope noone in another country will help you,

can we just open our eyes a little

weezyf's picture

i can't imagine that, because i'm not in that position.

but it's just a way of life.

we are humans, we are animals.

see Darwin's 'natural selection' theory :).

"Someone has to make them stop and if americans speaking against it pushes their governement to relize this then im going to keep screaming. im not saying its right to go over to another country with an army and push our views on them...."

Someone has to? Who gets to decide what's right and what's wrong? What's good and what's evil? I believe this is wrong but we can't just be like, "Yo africa, americans dont think you should be doing this in your continent.. stop that"

lol

if you think that we all should live in bliss, then apparently your eyes are closed.

this is life, ignorance is bliss.

I cant stress my sorrow enough for that which goes on in the Congo, but it's their nation. I don't know how else we can get them to stop other then just going in with the UN.

It is quite obvious you carry a very young soul and I’m not referring to your age, if I wouldn’t know any better I would assume your previous life was one lived inside an ostrich.

Your thinking pattern resembles that of the theory you brought up, but than again, certain theories just like assumptions change together with the evolution we can’t stop and follow accordingly.

Adding some lol and :) clearly shows you are not fully aware of what is lingering behind the words and content that has been posted by “Blacksparrow”.

I can only hope this type of natural selection will never show itself during the course of your live or the path that you follow. It doesn't sound verry much of a natural situation to me.

I don’t recall anyone asking you to come up with solutions in order to put an end at what’s happening. I believe the purpose of this blog and the UN is to develop some awareness around a situation that regards us all one way or another.

One of the things that I have experienced throughout my life, is that wherever you go, people are the same and carry the same basic characteristics, no matter race, gender or beliefs they might carry. The differences that are defining us are to be found in greatness of heart and emotional understanding.

The hurt which is being suffered as we speak caries a weight that by far exceeds our comprehension.

We have been there in the past and believe when i say it has nothing to do with right and wrong.

To live a life as humans or animals is not a choice but a responsibility we need to share amongst all in order to be referred and recognized by all humans, a being living in awareness that caries this simple common sense inside it’s heart will not even consider to inflict such trauma upon an 6 year old animal.

What is occurring right now needs to be out in the open for everyone to see, read and think about, for it shows and opens up more than one can even imagine in regard to where we are going to take this to be questioned in a human manner.

The bliss remark was a big “nono” is the one with the eyes wide shut!

Although I do believe your comments are meant in a genuine way, to talk like fuel, horney for a match, makes you only to see it ignite…and feel the heat!

Judging by your misspellings and failure to write proper sentences I feel that you are very young yet try to act old and above all of humanity. It is quite obvious you carry a very young soul and I’m not referring to your age, if I wouldn’t know any better I would assume your previous life was one lived inside of a snake.

"I can only hope this type of natural selection will never show itself during the course of your live or the path that you follow. It doesn't sound verry much of a natural situation to me."

After trying to decipher what you were saying to me I think you are wishing that natural selection doesn't show itself during my life? Correct me if I'm wrong, but nature does that for us. It shows itself everywhere you look. So I'm perplexed by this statement.

"I don’t recall anyone asking you to come up with solutions in order to put an end at what’s happening. I believe the purpose of this blog and the UN is to develop some awareness around a situation that regards us all one way or another."

I don't recall anyone asking you to criticize a someone's comment. You should read the Terms of Service :). Here's the link TOS. The purpose of this blog is to express freely your opinions, not your elitist attitude.

"To live a life as humans or animals is not a choice but a responsibility we need to share amongst all in order to be referred and recognized by all humans, a being living in awareness that caries this simple common sense inside it’s heart will not even consider to inflict such trauma upon an 6 year old animal."

Since when were we not animals? Last time I checked a homosapien is a species. It is not our say to what goes on in other matters. You say "a being living in awareness that caries this simple common sense inside it’s heart will not even consider to inflict such trauma upon an 6 year old animal." The people committing these crimes are people too, why are you saying they're any different. They're part of humanity too. hmph, get off your pedestal.

"What is occurring right now needs to be out in the open for everyone to see, read and think about, for it shows and opens up more than one can even imagine in regard to where we are going to take this to be questioned in a human manner."

Everything is out in the open to see, when did I say this issue needs to be buried?

I love this part, your grand finale of insulting me:
"The bliss remark was a big “nono” is the one with the eyes wide shut!

Although I do believe your comments are meant in a genuine way, to talk like fuel, horney for a match, makes you only to see it ignite…and feel the heat!"

You have a lot of gall saying that to a person you don't even know. And no I don't want my comment to be discredited by you as calling it 'genuine'. It is what it is. So when you come home from driving your daddy's BMW 7 Series, I would like to see some real views on the issue.

A warzone that is submerged in chaos and continuous traumatizing events makes people to become shutoff from sanity already having lost all link to reality. Some take a form that is not even close to that of an animal, people turn into monsters few meet in their nightmares.

Got me a bit confused here…I believe there is a need to throw some common sense at one another.

it really makes me wonder why people don't have any sense of self efficacy all i see is people say how they can't do anything about anything so lets watch it all go down.

i never stated bliss i stated the idea that people have the right to walk out of their house and not get murdered or raped. is that closed minded? is that wrong of me to think? is that such an outragous idea that it could be considered pushing my beliefs on others.

i didn't say go into their country and attact i said speak up and let people know how you feel. there are so many cases in history were things have changed due to a large number of people speaking out against it. and maybe another country will hear but wont give a shit...well then atleast we tried to portray out country and its people as more than just selfish and self centered.
