Well, I just got back from Model United Nations yesterday. It was interesting, but I did not really enjoy it much.
I absolutely love Youth Legislature and Mock Trial, but Model UN does not really do much for me. The debate was timed less because there was so many delegates, therefore people could not get across what they wanted to say in debate. There were many good resolutions, but there were also many poor ones.
My friends Ben and Mikey created a resolution to move the Model United Nations headquarters to Tuvalu. There was much opposition in this, and there was a ton of debate, because someone extended the pro-con debate. IT eventually passed in General Assembly and was moved to the President.
My resolution was about creating an HIV/AIDS curriculum worldwide to better educate people about how to combat AIDS.
It passed in Committee! But the problem was, there was 100 resolutions to go over in one day, and we only got to number thirty, and I was number eighty three on the docket. So, we never got to mine. =(
I also had an International Court of Justice case that I had to present. It was surprisingly easier than I thought. My partner and I were freaking out over it and what we needed to do to make sure that we were fully prepared. It was quite hectic!
Another issue.
The restaurants for lunch and dinner from the hotel were across the interstate, therefore we could not cross it.
The directors created a transportation system where two charter buses would pick us up and drop us off at certain times. This method proved to be unsuccessful, seeing as how I was waiting to eat dinner for two hours! It was a mess.
The hotel was very nice. I enjoyed my stay there, and we had a pirate party, which was fun, too. =)
Thanks for reading!
