After watching Tyra Banks on her talk show last week discussing teen pregnancy and why it is on the rise I came up with my own reason why I think that every one out of 3 women will be pregnant before the age of 19.
I think that part of the reason is the desperate desire for teens to be in a relationship. Once they are in a relationship, they act like they are married within weeks. On Myspace, there are hundreds of people kissing and calling their significant other "hubby" or "wifey" and even putting their relationship status as married from the start of the relationship.
I think that the title of husband and wife should be for couples who are actually married, not boyfriends and girlfriends who think these terms are "cute".
So essentially I think that this rush into a kind of unofficial marriage leads teens to do things as a married couple would, including living together, and having unprotected sex on a regular basis.
So what can be done about this?
Probably more parent involvement, but I understand how this can be difficult if you have a daughter who is 18 years old and decides that she wants to live with her significant other. But I think that the thing teens need most is some confidence and the desire to be more independent.

A lot of engaged couples are naive to the 52nd power. Maybe some of them want to have sex and not feel guilty.
Some young couples out there are getting married, and it's right. A lot of them just need a reality check.

I think that its the way that our community exults sex...of course everyone would want it, even moreso at a younger age because you're naive enough to think that everything you hear about its greatness is true. And im not above it...i was curious at a very young age myself... But in a way that would never get me pregnant

Some girls may even get pregnant on purpose to make sure their boyfriend sticks around. I know it's a scary thought, but I've seen it happen a few times. I really wish that more teenage girls were able to focus on their futures instead of their present....

Well I'd like to offer an alternative perspective. The other side of teen prenancy. I'm 18 and pregnant, but by no means is this a negative thing. I'd like you to read my blogs to get more of a different look at it if you get a chance.
