It amazes me how arrogant the current administration can be. They have proven time and again that basic constitutional principles such as separation of powers and the bill of rights are meaningless to them. It has gotten worse recently with the firing of several federal prosecutors for political reasons.
Officially, the prosectuors were fired for "perfromace related reasons." A review of federal documents has shown that the prosecutors were performing at or above the standards set for them. The prosecutors have alleged that their firings were political.
For example, David C. Iglesias, a prosecutor from New Mexico, was called by Republican Senator Peter V. Domenici and asked whether he would be aggresively pursuing charges against a democratic oprganization in New Mexico. When Mr. Iglesias responded, "I don't think so," and suddenly he was fired. This case alone is a horrific example of breaches of law: lawmakers are not supposed to be in contact with prosecutors. Senators do not apply the law, they write it, and there is no good reason for a Senator to be calling a federal prosecutor.
Another prosecutor who was fired was Carol Lam, a prosecutor from California who successfully indicted and prosecuted republican representative Randall Cunningham on corruption and bribery charges.
The firing of federal prosecutors by the Bush administration for partisan political reasons is an abomination of the system. The Bush administration has gone too far in interfering with the work of the Judicial branch; the firing of prosecutors simply because the dared to apply the law to powerful Republicans is a shameful, abominable miscarriage of justice, and those involved...such as Attorney General Gonzales...should be indicted and made to face up to their crimes. If we indicted Bill Clinton for perjury, why not indict Gonzales for obstruction of justice?

The 'Constitution' is something that can be interpreted and twisted in beneficial ways now, mostly for the protection of giant monopolies. I have, however, seen what you speak of in recent times. You can fire people for anything these days: race, sexual orientation, partisanship, et cetera and it's almost too easy to make up another reason why you fired them! Example: 'downsizing' has been used to fire as little as one single person before! Yes, downsizing is actually needed sometimes, BUT, the case I speak of ended up being fired because of his religious beliefs or lack thereof. I'll look up the name and get back to you.
