I'm Free!!:)

After reading about the contest I just had to add my two cents worth.  Thats what blogging is all about. I have the freedom to write whatever I want, to put in my two cents worth.  How else can anyone else make decisions about how they feel unless they know both sides of a story? Or how can people determine if somthing is a good idea or a corrupt thought?  As Oprah has said time and time again, women in America are the luckiest women in the world....you might ask yourself why, I mean we have our share of problems, such as are we too big or too little, do we fit in, what should we attend college for, what should we choose for an occupation, is it viewed as a female occupation or a male occupation, etc.   We hardly ever stop to think much about women in other countries all over the world have to face on a daily basis.  Unfortunately most try not to think about it once they find out the sad truth of it all.  Women in other parts of the world are treated and looked upon as scum, dirt benieth men's feet, a servant, to be seen and not heard, to be bearers of sons, to do what they've been told and not to give any feedback.  Are they not human, do they not feel as we feel?  Women in other countries have been taught this way, they are treated inhumainly, and can be killed by her husband in many countries without any punishment for the man and without justice for the woman.     So sure worring about what to wear to an important event, worring about what to become in college to face the real world may seem like a stressful event.  But when I think of what other women face, what they live or don't live through, and I relize that I have the choice, the opportunity, the right to voice myself in the world today, I'm going to take every chance I get to tell people what I think and how I feel.  Why? because I am an American woman and have every right in this state to be myself, to be a person, to be heard. So thank you for this opportunity to tell my reason why I blogg, I hope this opens people's eyes so that they realize how lucky they are....to be free.

Here's what I agree with: we are MORE free then most women in most of the world, but when you think about it, nobody in our society is actually truly free yet, least of all women...we still have a long way to go, sister. I mean, if you watch t.v. for 2.5 seconds, you will see that this is true...woman are still largely viewed as sex objects, or objects to sell sex, or sexy to sell objects.

So I guess I disagree with the idea that all women in America have to worry about is what to wear, or is their butt too big? We STILL get sexually harassed on a daily basis, we still have men trying to get us to fight and bicker so that they can control us, one out of EVERY three women in this country still gets raped, women like my mom still think it is impossible for women like my sister to become a doctor (my mom is sadly all in favor of oppression...)

We are still largely oppressed, and this becomes more and more clear to me the more women I work with, both in and out of the hospital...

It seems to me, that you are correct about our country. There is still opression, however in the context to this blog, she is comparing the females in America's society to the females in other country's societies. Therefore, females should be happy in America because, although our country isn't uet perfect with the equality of gender, we have gone a lot farther than many other countries.
I do hope one day men and women will be 100 percent equal, however it's just like any other prejudice. As for races, and lifestyles, nobody will be fully equal, and it's kind of disturbing.
