Another blog posting, and my subsequent response to it have led me to make this post. Hopefully it'll clear up for some people what seems to be a misunderstanding of a term.
Agnostic. What do most people seem to think it means? That they don't know what to believe in regards to god or a religion. "Undecided" if you will.
This is not true.
An agnostic is someone who has uncertainty, yes, but not in this manner. A practicing christian or jew could be an agnostic, and an atheist could be an agnostic as well. All that would mean in the case of the christian is that they believe in god, but don't believe god is proveable. An agnostic atheist would be one who didn't believe in a god, but didn't believe it could be definitively proven.
Gnostic theist. Agnostic theist. Gnostic atheist. Agnostic atheist. Confused as all hell/Unsure.
Those are the five categories that cover the bases of ones religious belief.

That's true, but you make it seem like its a bad thing, it's okay to not be sure as far as god is concern, and honestly there is not a clear answer. So whats the point in telling people that there is or isn't then they can't prove it? If people didn't spend so much time prove that their theory is the right one maybe we could do something more productive, like find a cure for cancer or something. I don't want to say I don't care about if god exists or not, but yeah I really don't. I just find studying about the different subjects of religion interesting.
Actual conversation:
Me: So why do you believe in god and in following a religion?
Mr. X: Well, it helps you lead a better life and you can't prove there isn't so you might as well do it to be safe.
Me: So no matter how good of a person I am, if there was a chance there was a "heaven" I wouldn't get in?
Mr. X: No, because you didn't accept god/jesus/whatever into your life
Me: Well if thats the case I don't wanna go anyway
Mr X: *confused look*
(I had that conversation yesterday, it was interesting to see how some people think)

I agree. I'm not a religious person at all, I just tend to find it disheartening when someone goes around labeling themselves something when they don't really know what it means and I was attempting to provide some clarification.

I fail to see how an atheist could be an agnostic? I mean, an agnostic supposedly acknowledges that there is some kind of God but as you said, this supreme being is not proveable whereas atheists by definition don't acknowledge or believe in any kind of God.
Just asking for an explanation...
