Should parents be going back to college and when is a good time to go back it you decide to? I am a mother of twin girls who just turned 3 years old. After graduating high school I did attend college for three semesters. Then we could not afford it any more so I had to stop. Now I am looking into going back but my girls are 3. I ask myself is now a good time to go back or should I wait for my girls to get bigger? If I wait will it be too late to go back? Anything I am not sure about should I go for what I want to go or which will take 4-6 years or should I get a lesser degree for now and then go back later when the girls get older? I do know that there are a lot of parents going back to school now but I do not know of any that have young children still? If I do go back to school I am going to have to work at lest part time to help support our family. Another thing for me that is going to make this decision hard is I am only 20 years old so most of the scholarships out there for mothers do not apply to me because of my age and also the fact that I am married. If there are any parents out there with young children help me out with this decision let me know how you are doing this and how hard it is on your children.

Wow its always a personal choice and tough when you have to weight ALL the options of everything.
I have a five year old and a near two year old and I have been back to school for a few years. Being a stay at home mom is cool and Really good for the children. This is why I do not really work unless I have to. I am a reservist so when duty calls I have little choice. I go to school full time...this is my work and I try to plan each class around my hubby's work schedual.
I know that there are school type programs out here for children that age in my community not sure about yours. You could go while they go.
Otherwise its day care. The negative effects that some claim are only applicable to children that have been in daycare since before the age of three according to a study I remember reading...the arguements go either way, making it another personal choice.
You can do it now or later. Most degrees that I have seen start with the acheivment of the lesser degree (assiciates) before you move on to the next level. Sometimes you can go straight to the Bach. degree which is fine too. Degree applications tend to cost a litttle too, but you can feel as if you accomplished something.
You are young so you have plenty of time to start college and take a class at a time. You are young so you have the strength and energy to push for a degree fast even with kids. It seems like something is always sacrificed for something gained, it comes down to a choice.
You might not be eleigible for single mom scholarships or elder scholarships, but I am willing to bet you could get grants and financial aid due to income. I guess your family is single income since you said consider goin back to work to help too.
I am not sure in which direction you plan on going. but there are some certificate programs that take only one class to acheive ( Certified Nursing Assistance is popular out here) and land you a little better then minimum wage.
If I were you, with my ideals about daycare and such, I would start college right away and count on financial aid and other supports like grants and scholarships, I would take only a few classes at a time during hours of the kid's school or when my husband is not working (or online for begining course work).
Hope this info helps although it looks like I leave you no better off.
