Should the United States be responsible for improving other countires food sources. I think not, not that I don't have sympathy. The United states has strict food standards because bad food is expensive. In aid to growers and expensive because of insurance claims, and expensive in terms of death and pain of people, and expensive in terms of healthcare. Look at the proposed aid to innocent spinach growers who got hurt by the stores taking product off shevles. In a the Lansing Jounal article, the gov't is said to have proposed apoximatly 2-3 billion dollars. Sorry I read that a few weeks ago and am not sure as to the number just that its a very large number. I think Private business should have large emergency accounts to get them though these little hiccupps, its not like that was a sereve dought or anything. However, I understand that farming is not a lucrative business. Died goods are a better bet. But I don't see spinach powder on the market.
The stict standards for the foreign goods would cost the united states 100,000"s of billions, and even more trillions to legislate it (while MI is considering a shutdown for the summer due to no money" got from the News") and would make the gobal market extremently unpleasant besides! If countries sent bad food what could we do about it? We'd just have to pay for it and buy more. Nobody would eat it and the UN santions don't work, look at how Korea and Iraq are developing nuclear weapons even though the santions.
The only reaon this is even an issue is because anybody can grow food. People alway look for the easiest answer, and thoose counties spend so much time getting and making food that they don't have time for anything else, they need to export what they are working on.
Those countires that don't have oil are just going to have to export talent. Schools in Chile and other couties like Chile have university's that turn out talet. Maybe other counties should turn to phisical and mental solutions. Entertainment is the only export left.
Maybe war was nessary because of the buildup. THe USA really dosn't need any more THINGS except energy. And maybe some more Japaenese Animee. "gig"

I kind of agree with you. I agree with your reason, but I also think that if we can improve other country's standards for growing food and help them help themselves then why not. We have the resources and Americans are fat anyways

i agree that the US should not be responsible but that doesnt mean that we should completly turn our backs on otehr countries. we get our food from them too.
