I don't know about you, but I feel like I need to shake things up a bit. Life after graduation at first, comes with all the glamor and freedom, but only for a little while.
My parents insisted that I get a job...I already had one, but they meant a full time one. So, I searched and found a job as a secretary. It was exciting at first, because it was new; but it's probably one of the dullest jobs I've ever had. I used to look foward to coming in and get over my fear of answering the phone, but now that I've defeated that fear, there's nothing else to do.
My routine is like this: walk in, punch in, go to my desk chair, check the messages, switch from call fowarding, and sign onto the company's system where we log in data. The rest of the day is spontaneous. I get to sit and wait for the phone to ring...you never know when it will. Or my personal favorite, going onto this site or facebook. Sometimes I do time cards, which is probably my favorite thing to do next to scanning invoices.
I stay at my desk until 2:00pm on the dot. Rush over to my boss's desk and sign myself out. I can not get out of the door fast enough! I race to my car, fumble to put the key into the ignition and speed off to my house where I wait for an hour to go to my next job.
The whole time I'm at work, I am bored to tears until my boss comes in through the door. But even then, I find myself getting sleepy from doing absolutley nothing!
Everyday I go through the same routine. The only thing that changes is how extreme the bordom is.

I hear ya!! I have been there too. You have to find your calling or you will go nuts. Figure out what you want out of life and what you really want to do. If you don't you will spent many years in that chair driving yourself crazy and falling asleep in your lazyboy at 8:30 watching infomercials. Do yourself a favor, and take a class, a dance class, a karate class, spinning, cake decorating, or take them all one at a time, figure out what you want. You won't be sorry.
You only live once.

If you are heading to college, cherish that job, especially if you go to a local college.
Those long periods of time where you are doing nothing can instead be used to study.
Then, you'll be getting paid to study!
Agreed. You have the best kind of college job there is.
Hotel receptionist is another good one. I had that one during my freshman year. It was nice.

I'm not a big fan of my job either. I only work 10 hours a week right now, but those 10 hours could not go by fast enough. And even so, I don't have the down time you do to read or do homework or something. I'm just doing mundane tasks all day long (since I work two 5-hour shifts each week). I file charts, I put papers into charts. Yesterday I spent 4 1/2 hours staring at the computer to see who had missed appointments and hadn't paid for them. Next week I get to start going through charts of patients that haven't been there in ages, shredding papers and otherwise destroying those we can get rid of so they don't use up so much storage space.
I get to move on to Phlebotomy come December. I can't wait.
