Where did my shows go?

Has anyone notice the turn that television has taken over the past few years? When I turn on the t.v., hoping to find something to watch, I am disappointed. I am sure I could find entertainment if I really searched but what happened to the content of the shows?

I watched Grey's Anatomy for the first season, it was a decent show, albeit a bit raunchy but now it has turned into Grey's Bordello. Now it is tough to find a real story line through the rampant sex and drama. I know that hospitals and --let's be honest here-- any workplace has its drama, but come on; not everyone is sleeping with thier boss!

Let's take a look at Buffy. I watched the show religiously until Willow took her turn to the dark side of lesbianhood. I had just named a new pet ferret after her, then they turn the character into just another gay character among the countless television characters who realized they didn't like the opposite sex after 4 seasons. Don't get me wrong, many people who I love dearly are either gay or lesbian, but I do not need to see it on television, especially when the young, impressionable youth of today are watching these shows.

I am open to comments, I know I will most likely get more negative comments than positive, but I am willing to take them, since I have only been typing what I feel.

People aren't "tricked" or "convinced" to be gay. So watching a gay character on television is no harm to the impressionable youth. Now, I feel like some shows have resorted to making a character gay for shock appeal rather than interesting story, and that irks me a bit. But worrying about a little girl turning lesbian because of Buffy is pretty silly.

I hate to use this sort of example, but say you HATED eating..oh let's say chicken. You just didn't like it. If your favorite TV show character loved chicken, could you suddenly change your mind and enjoy it?

I agree with you that the content of shows has definitely diminished. Back in the day shows used to be good, now it's only afew for pure entertainment. There is no good content in them. Not i only really watch Desperate Housewives and Greys Anatomy (which was pretty bad this week).

TV encourages exhibitionist bi-sexuality in front of the opposite sex to get attention, not actual homosexuality. Girls don't see girls making out on TV and think, "hey, that looks like fun." They see it on TV and hear the boys cheering it on, and think,"Hey, I'd like that attention."

I didn't like that particular chunk of Willow's character arch either though. She kind of just jumped the fence a few seasons in for no apparent reason. I would have been just as disappointed if she jumped from lesbian to straight though. TV drama almost always involves sex. It's dramatic and causes plot tension. It's also fun to watch. But in the end overloading a show with it destroys it.
