You Can't Take My Scholarship From Me!

After weeks of not knowing what school to go to and constantly debating one school against the other, I finally chose a college based on the financial aid I was receiving. I didn't think I would be attending this school since the tuition is $43,000 a year. FAFSA had advised me to take out $30,000 in loans. When it seemed like I wouldn't be going, I find the perfect scholarship for me. The scholarship said I would receive 50% off my tuition since my mom is a teacher and my dad is a deacon. My dad spoke to two departments at my school and they sent him the form to fill out and told him I would receive the scholarship. Based on this, I sent in my $500 deposit for the school.
A few weeks ago, I was told that I would not receive the tuition cut, because I am neither a teacher nor clergy. What?! This is after I have sent in a now non refundable deposit. I can not withdraw from the school without losing it and I can not go to another school (except community college) because acceptance deadlines are closed.
OK...so I was offered loans; I can't accept any of them except my student loan, which is only $3,500. My parent's credit is shot from our house being in foreclosure and they can't take out the other loans. Even if they could, I wouldn't want them to. I was promised that scholarship and I'm going to beg that financial aid office to give me more money.

www.salliemae.com is a good resource for getting additional student loans (the ones you have are merely Federal, I'd wager to bet). I know there's another good one as well, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.

I'd suggest seeing if the school has any work study programs that you can work with to help as well. Best of luck with your scholarship.

Thanks. I thought about work study but I'm not eligible according to FAFSA. I have to find transportation to the job I have now or find a job closer, but off campus.

What major are you considering?
I always wonder why people choose to go to the expensive colleges for the lower level classes, when the same thing is available at a quarter of the price at a community college, then transfer. Your degree will still have the same awesome school name and you wont be so broke afterwards.
It sucks that they took your good deal away, Good luck in the future,
