Idling Cars

Idling Cars is when you leave your car running even though you are not in it or do not need it on. Like when you are warming up your car in the morning leaving it running outside or when you are waiting for a ridiculously long time in traffic.

There are laws that busses cannot idle longer than five minutes because of the carbon emissions from just burning gas without reason are too much of a concern. It pollutes the air so much when people idle and yet they do it still. I know it can be good for the car to warm up a little but why do people leave it on for like 20 minutes unattended just to get the heater inside warm enough for them. I seriously debate turning the car off and taking the keys from people so obviously ignorant to the harm that they are doing because they do not like the cold.

Why should there not be laws that prohibit cars from idling for longer than five minutes as well. It would make sense because if the bus cannot idle what about the twenty cars behind it that are idling that makes up enough idling for a few busses so why not make a law against that as well? What are your opinions about it? Is there anything else that we could do to raise awareness or to make a difference in the amount of waste people are creating unnecessarily by idling their cars?

It is currently ten degrees outside I would guess. As a matter of fact it was so cold outside this morning my car wouldn't start and I had to call into work, but I never warm my car up. Not only do I not want to waste that precious gas that I paid three dollars and twenty cents a gallon for, but I get up and wipe enough snow off my car that I think I can safely see out my windshield and immediately take off. I am extremely conciencious about wasting my gas, unnecessarily running my vehicle or anything of the sorts. I shut my car off if I am even in a long line at the bank.

Well, there are valid reasons for letting your car warm for 20ish minutes before you start driving. Of course it depends on where you live and how cold it is, but one of the reasons is that if you stress the engine before the metal has had a chance to warm up and expand, you are capable of warping it... which equals the end of your engine as you know it. I've been impatient with people who wait for a while to start driving but that's mostly because I have places to go and people to see and I like rushing off without a second's delay... so yeah... =P
