Troy Scheffler, a student at Minnesota's Hamline University, remembers the horror of the shooting at Virginia Tech. He recalled the events of that day, and suggested that if the students could have been armed (as they were allowed to be just one school year prior), the horrible event might have been avoided, or at least minimized.
For this very reasonable stance, the University has suspended him. They have demanded that he undergo "mandatory “mental health evaluation” before being allowed to return to school."
That's right. For suggesting that a student with a legal concealed carry permit be allowed to carry at their college (as the students of Virginia Tech were allowed to do just one year prior), he was suspended and his mental health has been called into question, with a demande that he be evaluated by doctors before he can take classes again.
Apparently at colleges, you can burn a flag or constitution for extra credit, but you can't claim your right to self-defense.
Apparently at colleges, you can support a holocaust denying terrorist supporter, but you can't claim your right to self-defense.
Apparently at colleges, you can call all white people racist because they're white, but you can't claim your right to self-defense.
Thankfully, Fire (Foundation for Individual Rights in Education) as taken up the cause of defending this student.

Wow. It figures that a free-speech promoting institution like a university would punish a student for doing just that.
I understand that now we all need to be more careful in what we say and colleges need to be on the lookout for the next school shooter, but this is taking it too far.
They called him mentally unstable because he suggested that gun free zones made students more dangerous.
That they call those who show a most basic understanding of recent history 'unstable' shows how unstable they are.
It was not too long ago, in the last 5 years, that a group tried to suggest that conservatives all suffered from a mental disorder that made them not care about others.
It was the Democrats who supported Stalin, Castro, Chavez, Che, and yet.... it is the conservatives who don't care about others? heh.
