Cyber Bullies

I am a graphic designer and the mother of a 10 year old. I'm concerned about the issues of bullying and alienating in our schools. I have designed a “Kindness Ring” in response to an increasingly egocentric, mean and competitive attitude displayed by some kids today.

The design of the ring incorporates interchangeable colored strings and is inspired by the old custom of tying a string around your finger to remember something, in this case ... kindness. Each ring comes with two sets of 10 strings, each color representing a particular act of kindness. Worn as inspirational jewelry, my intention is to help children find solutions to their problems and insecurities through peaceful action that will benefit us all. I believe by simply reminding them of their innate desire to be kind, we can ease social pressure, bullying and acts of retaliation. Kindness is something we should emphasize and teach to our children through our words and own actions. The ring I’ve designed is called String-Ring™ — The Kindness Reminder.

I have donated the first 100 String-Rings to The Rachel’s Challenge Project, to be given to the students at any one of Darrell Scott's speaking engagements in the hope of promoting kindness and tolerance. He is the father of one of the Columbine school shooting victims and he now reaches out to schools to promote a message of kindness through assemblies and follow-up programs.

The String-Ring web-site, www.string-ring.com, has just been launched. Please take a look at my website and consider helping me remind humanity to act in kindness.

I hope your plan works at some level. Bullying is just a common thing that will always go on. At least though you are trying to make a difference and it could decrease bullying. I don't think this would totally solve it though because some kids are just really rude. They are taught that way by their parents. The parents can be the problem sometimes.
