Perviously, I blogged about seeing a great play called "The Most Massive Woman Wins". Here's an interesting postscript: Another theatre major friend of mine went ot see the performance with her parents (she's originally from Columbia, so she lives with them). However, they were not at all pleased with the language used in the play (there are a few swear words, and plenty of references to sex and sexuality). She said that she was lectured for almost an hour by her parents, who said that she shoud'nt attend or be cast in plays that are so "unchristian". Someone asked her what would've happened if she had been cast in it. After a good deal of thought, she said "They would probably kick me out out of the house."
There is a major differnce between being and acting. It is an actor's job to "hold a mirror to nature", and sometimes people in real life swear, talk about sex, etc. Personally, I have few problems reconciling being a christian with being an actor. As much as I understand why some parents are not fond of vulgarity in entertainment, I find it highly disturbing that participating in a ply could become grounds for icking people out of their home. (sadly, I have learned that many adults will kick their children out of the house for incredibly stupid reasons)
Instead of saying how "bad" one art form is, adults shoudl be having a dialouge about the merits and drawbacks of controversial art.
