I've noticed a lot of posts on abortion... so I have a question for everyone who takes a stance on the matter.

Everyone has a reason for the choice they make in life. Many of us have decided to be Pro-choice because we believe in democracy and everyone has right to make their on decisions via the 4th and 9th amendments. Then there is the other half that have chosen to be Pro-life because they believe in the rights of the unborn fetus over the mother.

So this poses two question:

1) Is the potential child, the fetus, a parasite? According to the defintion below it is.

Parasite: an organism that lives on or in an organism of another species, known as the host, from the body of which it obtains nutriment.

  a
person who receives support, advantage, or the like, from another or
others without giving any useful or proper return, as one who lives on
the hospitality of others.
(in ancient Greece) a person who received free meals in return for amusing or impudent conversation, flattering remarks, etc.

2) And who should the government favor the potential (the fetus) or the actual (the mother)?

What do you think?

Yes, I have always believed that a fetus of any animal is a parasite.
And the actual because they are LIVING. They have memories and people who love and know them.
"I am a Stephens Woman."

I wouldn't say that the fetus is a parasite, just that it has parasitic characteristics. Like your definition says, a parasite has to be of a species different from the host.

And I think the government should favor the actual because... y'know... actually here and living and stuff.

Sorry about not adding the other two parts of the definition before.

So if the government favors the actual ( the mother), then abortion is ok?

I'm working on a post regarding my own view on this, which will be more in-depth, but the Reader's Digest version is pretty much this:

I don't have the right to make decisions for you, nor do you have the right to make decisions for me. If I knew you, I would do my best to discourage you from having an abortion if you were thinking about it, but I realize the decision is ultimately up to you. On a political/national/governmental level, that translates into legalizing abortion because outlawing it is an attempt to make that decision for everyone.

-- quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Making abortion illegal is not about favoring a fetus over the mother. The unborn are not "potentials" but rather "Actuals". They are humans living among us, in our world. What's next, saying that anybody under the age of 20 is fair game because, they're just "potential" beings. The unborn have rights and protections as people living in America. The most important right is their right to live which has been unconstitutionally denied by a majority of nine unelected lawyers. the unborn have equal rights as their mother, and there is not conflicts of rights with most pregnancies. In other words, the abortion is performed "just because" which cannot be permitted in a just and civil society.
