The Best Things In Life Are *NOT* Free

One of the most popular sayings that I hear nowadays from this new generation coming up (which would just happen to be my generation), is that "The Best Things In Life Are Free."

I completely DISAGREE!

Now, I'm not saying that money can buy happiness, nor am I advocating materialism. However, there are different ways that you must 'pay' for the best things in life.

For example.

Love. Advocates of "The Best Things In Life Are Free" campaign (TBTILAF from now on) claim that love is free. I dispute such claims as imbecilic. You may not pay with money, but you do pay. Just ask any person who has had their heart broken, their trust destroyed, and their emotions thrown about so badly that they do not recover for months, if even that early.

Those things that people claim do not cost anything always cost something. Providing security for your family costs worry from yourself. Giving love costs trust, time, work, and part of your heart. Friendship costs trust and time. Communication costs commitment. Life costs death. Death costs life. And so on and so forth.

How many of you would tell your boy(girl)friend/fiancee'/spouse/significant other that you loved them and then never do or say another thing to keep the romance alive?

It would fall apart within the week.

TBTILAF? It's a fluke of nature created by someone who had a lapse of sanity.

I think a more accurate statement would be that The Best Things In Life Don't Cost Money.

The real question is what are you willing to pay?

Everything costs something.

most people understand that it's talking about currency. you know, the green dollars :)

however, it can be so easily misconstrued.

I don't know, I think I'd have to disagree with you on this one.

The best things in life are free and then some. Free in the sense that you spend emotionally and mentally, yes, but you receive so much more in return. You may get your heart broken, but it teaches you lessons and experience. And moral values.

The best things in life are free, because nature doesn't cost anything. It doesn't cost anything but time to stand still and feel the breeze or watch the trees blowing around in the sunlight. Just because there is a certain "cost" doesn't mean it isn't free.

Because EVERYTHING has a cost. But most of those costs you're willing to pay, and enjoy doing so. So why should it not be considered free?

"They took all the trees and put 'em in a tree museum. And charged the people a dollar and a half to see them"---THAT wouldn't be free. Bottling water? That's not free. Slavery? That's not free either. But we are FREE as individuals to roam around, speak with barely any repercussions, and feel the way we want. I really think that's what they mean by free.

I don't mean to be offensive in any way, if I was....I was just voicing my opinion :/.
But hey, you presented a great enough blog to have me reply with such a long entry. You must be doing something right =)

But my thought process goes as follows:

Cost=Not Free

Freedom costs lives. Not to mention our struggles now to keep our freedoms, or gain new ones.

And no, you're not offensive.

Yes, but does the benefit outweigh the cost?

Shadonin's picture

Even if the benefit outweighed the cost. It still cost.

Well, I have a free spirit.

There.
We agree on something? lol
:P.

The best things in life is Free. Salvation is free. But I also agree to the not free part ... because living for God is costly. It costs us our lives...

Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23

What Bible have you read?

According to my Bible, Christ PAID WITH HIS LIFE.

I wouldn't call that free.

And my biggest problems with 'Christians' today are those who act as if it was free. It cost something, a BIG something, and no one is willing to get a little uncomfortable even though someone became MORE than uncomfortable so that they could keep living.

IT is a free gift from God, it is not earned or deserved, but God offers it for everyone. I don't want to argue with a brother.. I read the same Bible you read, and you are so right ! Jesus Christ did pay the price on the cross..and yes that is not free, because it cost His life.

Wasn't trying to argue.

Just trying to bring up a point.

you have a gift my friend....

this is a ministry field here right online like this !! its awesome

I agree that everything costs money because some web sites have free offers (like a Free Laptop or a Free Coach Purse), but they're really not free because even though these companies on the Internet claim that their product is free, you must pay taxes on it.
