Haunted Molly Stark Hospital

Tagged:  •    •

I was driving down old 62 ( Now Columbus road) near Alliance. I came across a sign on the side of the road that read Molly Stark Hospital. I have never heard of this hospital before. Thinking it might be a new hospital just built. I quickly turned around and went back. Turning into the drive I was met by a vast building that looked much like a mid evil castle. Pulling in front of the building. I stopped the car and got out. I could see the building better now. This was not a newer building but a much older one. Built in the 1930's (which I found out later). I went up to the main entrance which to my surprise was open. Stepping inside was like stepping back in time. It reminded me of the 40's but with a 70's twist. Above me was a massive glass chandelier. I looked down the halls and I could see beds and papers laying around but with a fine layer of dust on them. It looked like the employees just one day dropped everything and left. As I looked around I found the dark and very creepy basement. Which still contained files on the people who once came here for treatment. I read a handful several that date in the mid 1930's and had listed on the files the disease tuberculosis. I dropped the file and before it hit the floor I realized that I was standing in a 1930's tuberculosis Hospital. As I read the other files they confirmed my theory. Hundreds possibly thousand of people came to this hospital for treatment of tuberculosis. Sadly many would not survive. As I started back up th stairs I began to feel cold, incredibly cold. To the point of shaking. It stopped me in my tracks. I looked around and then ran up the remaining stairs. I went back to my car and left. I had to find out more on this hospital. So I researched it and found this out.

Molly Stark Hospital built in the 1930's by a Firestone. It was a tuberculosis sanatorium
later becoming a state hospital for the mentally ill and the aged. It closed in 1995. This is all I could find on the history of the place. But while I researched the hospital I found a lot of ghost stories from people who used to work there. They ranged from full body, to pushing, screaming, and scratching. I talked to a select few of my chat room ghost hunter buddies and most said they never heard of the place. But the people who have heard of it said it was a hot bed of paranormal activity.

I will never forget the Hospital it was the first place where I felt threatened. I hope to do I full investigation of the building. But to my surprise. The building is supposed to be closed and locked up. Police visit the area at night to make sure the no kids break into the building.

( This blog is combined with my brother's story when he went into the building and my research. This is a true story and the Hospital is real.)

I'm glad you recognized them! Do you know how to edit? There's a tab at the top of your blog. Sorry if you already know this...I don't mean to condescend. But you're new, so...

So you're a "ghost-hunter", so to speak? - at first, you had me thinking that you just decided to randomly visit a very old hospital... that was an interesting story, hope to read more in your next blog.

I was searching the internet about Molly Stark and found your blog. I can't believe you could just walk in. I'm from the area and drive past a lot. However... did you hear that the hospital had a fire a few weeks ago and now the county is trying to decide what to do with it. It is so sad that such a beautiful building has gone to waste. Check out the Canton Repository at www.cantonrep.com for articles and pictures about Molly Stark.

isn't there a fire station near molly stark ? I hope not to much of that building burnt. My family built that hospital. I hope they don't tear it down. Some people should step in and save that building.

Yes there is a fire station near it, but they were just coming back from another call. They are thinking that both fires were arson. I don't think the damage was a lot.

Your family built Molly? I too am interested in hearing more. Go to www.cantonweb.com. I bet you will find a lot of people who want to hear that story too.

I’m thinking about trying to pull resources and maybe starting a web site that is dedication to Molly Stark Hospital’s history and the people it has touched over the years.

Let’s keep in touch.

Back in the Mid 80's till 93 I worked @ Molly Stark Hospital. It was indeed a scarey place, and yes I swear I saw a ghost working one night. Back when it was a TB hospital the workers had to actually live there as well as the story goes. Tunnels lead from the physician's home on the property to the main hospital. I was recently talking with someone about my experiences with Molly Stark Hosp. and the ghosts when he told me of a camera crew going inside to do some sort of documentary for a mock disaster training thing for EMS. He said the strangest thing occured with the film and was not noticed until they were producing it. While standing and filming in the foyer, with it's massive fireplace the colored film was b&w on the inside of the buidling yet when they panned to the outside, the film turned to color. (He says that's an impossibility to reproduce on color film/and have it go b&w......I'm not sure if you can or cannot, but my son said the same thing when I told him about it.) I recently saw photos online and the hospital is sadly falling apart. Back when I worked there our office was located in the old Morgue room....creepy huh?

my Grand Mother Died at this place in the thirties of TB
