Dear Libs,
You always proclaim to "support the troops" even when on the streets with anti-war signs or dressed as the Grim Reaper or holding the latest number of dead from the war in Iraq. You claim to support the troops then vie to cut their funding from underneath them. You claim to support the troops yet want a definitive date of surrender.
Prove you "support the troops" ... watch this video. I dare you.

Something you and all the other right wing zealots need to understand is that supporting the troops does not have to equal supporting the war.
I support all the Australian soldiers over there on my behalf. I do not support the Australian government committing troops to this farce against the wishes of a majority of Australians.... I expect it is the same for a lot of people in the US.
Australia, don't become America!

If you support the troops, tell me how. How do you do it?

I support the troops by wanting them to be brought home. No Australian soldier should die because of Bush's ego!
How do you support the troops?

Thinking and wanting is not supporting. It's active wishing. HOW are you supporting them?

A touch pedantic aren't we? Ok lets reword that so it fits into your warped idea of what support is......
I support the Australian troops AND their families by **actively wishing** that they remain ****alive**** to be a father/mother to their children, son/daughter to their parents, loving partner to their SO's and friend to their mates BY actively campaigning to have them brought home to Australia IMMEDIATELY and for Australia to no longer act as the puppets or lackies to the deranged egotistical monster that the American people saw fit to elect as their President.
Now..... can you tell me EXACTLY what you are doing to support the troops????????? Please could you stop avoiding *this* question!

I lead and organize support our troops rallies in our local city and county--I send letters--assemble care packages--go to veterans hospitals--grieve with the families who have lost loved ones--work with freedomgear.com that sends many products overseas--organize support our troops collections at local colleges and high schools. That's just some of the stuff that I do...

I am tired of all this meaningless political rhetoric about supporting the troops.
People are dieing. Lets end the debate over semantics.
Bring the troops home!
As for you, do you support the troops? Why bring them home? Do you have a plan you can implement to bring them home faster? You can say bring them home all you want. But put some action to your words--what plans would you implement? And what semantics are you talking about?

The debate over semantics is this, exactly what you are accusing me of...
does not supporting the war mean you do not "support the troops."
is it "supporting the troops" to want an end to the war so that they can come home
Republicans in congress like to rally around this cry of supporting the troops when they want to deface a democratic who does not support the war, or wants to force the president to draw up a plan for deployment by limiting funding.
As for a plan...that is very difficult, because the situation has been made very severe. Going into a war with little international backing was a poor idea, and we are left with few options.
Thus i would ask, those supporters of the war and the troops...what is the plan to win this war....when is this war actually won?
"Republicans in congress like to rally around this cry of supporting the troops when they want to deface a democratic who does not support the war, or wants to force the president to draw up a plan for deployment by limiting funding."
Are you sure you haven't go that backwards???
And, as for your talk of semantics and trying to turn my questions back on me...quit doing it. That is not what I asked you. My question was a simple one. Do you support the troops?

i dont believe i have anything backwards
but ur criticizing me for answering your question, you asked "what semantics i was discussing?"
And i dont want to turn that question around on you, because its silly and achieves nothing.
It achieves everything. Thank you for answering my question.

Republicans can go on and on about how demonstrating against the war hurts troops feelings, and about how Liberals don't care about the troops and Republicans looove them. But only a Republican could buy that gibberish, or even think for a second that anybody with a dog shit's worth of intelligence wouldn't see the lunacy of such claims.
Republicans want to keep the troops in a place where people get shot to shit, blownup and burned alive on a daily basis.
Liberals want their troops home, where the probability of being blown to bits is significantly less than it is in Iraq.

Do you know anyone in harm's way? Are you a soldier? Do you even support our troops?

I come from a military family. I lost my own father during the Vietnam Conflict. Were it not for the Pentagon's policy of "don't ask, don't tell," I would very likely be sitting on a sub somewhere in the Persian Gulf even as we speak. In the current situation in Iraq and Afghanistan, one of my best friends is a Arabic translator, and has been deployed ever since the original foray into Afghanistan. On a humorous note, my friend chose to study Arabic instead of Russian because at the time, it was considered a "safe" language for Army translators to specialize in. Go figure.
I am not really an opponent of the war. I have thought that a military solution has been in order in that region for decades. But, I do think that this war has been prosecuted in a terribly inept fashion. If we ignore the errors in policy and leadership that are placing our soldiers in harms way unnecesarily, then we are doing them far more harm and giving them far less respect than if we actively and honestly work towards the goal of giving them the intelligent leadership that they need so that their lives are not wasted and spent for no good reason.

No I don't know anybody in harm's way. No I'm not a soldier. I'm comming from an objective point of view. I empathize with the troops as human beings, but I do not support all of their actions, and I don't support the war they are fighting. I'm not a Liberal either.
If my brother was in Iraq, I would want him home. I would miss him as I'm sure any family misses a member who is at war. But given the details of the fiasco out in Iraq I would be angry that he was out there and want his safe return, not cheering him on to stay.

I'm not so sure your brother would think agree with you.
You love Harry Reid too, I bet...

My brother is younger than me, so I would see him as a prime candidate for chicken hawk recruiters. It's a lot easier to convince an 18 year old to go to Iraq than it is somebody who has actually been out of highschool long enough to gain a proper world perspective.
We're not really the kinda guys that end up in the recruiters mitts. They don't like talking to guys like us. Too many tricky questions, not enough 'let's go kick Charlie's ass!!'(high-fives all round). Why do you think street gangs recruit young? Why do you think ex-gang members are usually in their mid to late twenties when they realize that what they believed for the past few years was bullshit fed to them by older members and recruiters?
I think there's a problem with the term 'troops'. Largely that it's a blanket term for many soldiers of different kinds. I know killing individuality is what the army is all about, no I in team and all that, but let's take stock a second.
There are troops out there who are young and gung-ho, they remind me of the child soldiers in Somalia and Sudan. I feel sorry for them because their beliefs have been scewed by a combination of youth and propaganda. I hope they make it out alive and live long enough to analyse their beliefs with an adult mind. I hope also that what they see and experience in Iraq doesn't ruin their lives at this early stage.
There are troops who have signed up to the military to protect their country. I support them without question. Their trust has already been abused without people giving them shit for simply trying to do their job. They have families to feed and support, and are risking their lives to do it.
However there are some troops out there who I will never support, blind patriot psychos who abuse POWs and get a hard-on for murder. Fuck em. They're just suicide bombers with better equipment and less balls.
I will also never support highschool recruiters. They are worse than paedophiles. They should be in the front lines over in Iraq, instead of chicken hawking youngsters out of the playground.

you are very critical of those against the war, but i respect your passion.
I think i am against the war, but i want to support the troops?
How can I do it?
Can i support them and still be against the war?
I have virtually no experience in the military, so I ask with all sincerity. Thanks
It is far more often the conservatives who fail to keep the best interests of the troops in mind. To wit:
Bush's proposed salary increase:3%
Democrats: 3.5%
The liberals constantly support better pay and better after service programs and pensions while conservatives cower in fear of "big government" and raised taxes. The cons and neo-cons support the troops by keeping them busy and buying bumperstickers and tying yellow ribbons to trees and making sentimental or jingoistic youtube videos.
Cons take advantage of good and well meaning people who want to defend this country in order to line their pockets, tighten their fear grip on this country, and fill their war chests for re-election. The troops are just pawns and symbols. Generic brothers and sisters and husbands in danger in foreign lands. The troops are just a collection of sybolic everymen to your average con to be exploited at every turn for sympathy in the public eye and screwed over when it comes to real world decisions like pensions and pay and health bnefits.
Res ipsa loquitur.
