They wanted to learn English. They wanted to breathe free. They wanted to become Americans. Now, far too many immigrants come here with demands. They demand to be taught in their own language. They demand special privileges ... affirmative action. They demand ethnic studies that glorify their culture.

They should all be packed up and shipped home. Or they need to learn English and pay taxes. I'm sick of living in a country where they force spanish on you and now all of a sudden its my duty to learn spanish so I can talk to an illegal immigrant. A very large portion of ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS are NOT from MEXICO, they are from EASTERN EUROPE. As you probably know, Eastern Europe is not explicitly known for their Spanish-speaking ability. A larger portion of LEGAL IMMIGRANTS are from Mexico. What we need to do it make citizenship more available so we wouldn't have some of these problems.
How exactly do you "act" like an American besides pay taxes and speak English? I would love for you to elaborate on that.

It's said in the Constitution where I see no mention of English. Everyone is entitled to it. If we do not abide by our Constitution, we might as well use it to wipe our fat asses.
Where in the Constitution does it say that the citizens would be required to pay for documents to be printed in other languages to accommodate every new group who comes into the country? The Constitution in that regard is irrelevant to the debate.
And if we're really going to go there, we're already wiping our asses with the Constitution in so many ways. So many laws and policies walk all over the Constitution in favor of lib nonsense and right wing religious "holier than thou" sentiment.

but i totally agree with you. yesterday in my goverment class, we had a discussion about this, myself and my friend were the only ones that seemed to have a problem with people living in our free country, and not having to pay taxes, or pay for their medical expenses. they simply said "who else is going to cut your lawn or take less then minimum wage jobs?" but i guess they do not understand the basis of the arguement. They are here ILLEGALLy, that is WRONG we can not simply look past the fact they broke our laws and are reaping the benefits of doing so. Many also claim that they are the basis for our economy, but i guess they also do not realize that although they take low paying jobs, they also drain money for our ecomony. They winde up in our jails (which we have to pay for their living expenses), they do not have to pay taxes (unlike the rest of us law abiding citizens) they cause violence within our socieys. and i guess some can over look that because they dont want to have to mow their lawns themselves.
Something has to be done about this ILLEGAL immigration problem and it cant simply be ignored.

It may be true that 40% of all workers in L.A. County don’t pay taxes. But you must remember that there are quite a few taxes that they do pay. They may not pay income tax, which should not be of importance since these immigrants don’t have a significant income anyway and would get a refund if they did pay income tax, but they pay sales tax when they buy items. They pay property tax if the own it, which most likely they do not, but who fault is that, maybe it is the inflated housing cost of LA County. (the median house cost 500,000 in LA). But remember the people who rent out these houses pay the property tax.

It seems to me like Corporate America likes Spanish Speaking Stations in a County where 3.9 million speak Spanish. Seems like common business practice to serve a population, basic econ. In fact, considering that there are a LOT more radio stations that are in English, who cares???

Preferences in jobs, hmmm lets think about this…Considering the top 1% of America controls 20 % of the wealth in the country and the top 10% bring home 50% of the income. And all the top 1% are whites and you might get a few black mixed in there for the top 10%. Where is the great jobs these illegal Immigrants getting? Affirmative Action baby bearly makes an impact on the hiring practices of Big Corporations.

Please, no LA county school system….It is just BAD period…no excuse. Overcrowded and underfunded. Don’t say it is a result of not speaking English because the worst school system in America is in Mississippi and they all speak English there.
Finally unless you own property, and make over 16000 a year as a single citizen of America…The only tax you pay is Sales Tax...

Why our men and women our fighting and dieing for our country, illegal immigrants our using the system in America and insisting that we learn their language. If and when the draft comes back they won't be involved cuz they are invisible to the the draft. So my son will be drafted not the illegal boy he goes to school with.
I say "if" we are going to stay in this war give the illegals a chance to get legal or go fight and anyone on death row can go fight as well. I don't want to feed you for the rest of your life cuz your a piece of crap that can't live in society. (Not the illegals, the convicts).

I think if you were to do that to prisoners, when they come home they should be released from prison. I would consider their debt to society paid if they went and fought for their country.
However I'm against this was in particular, so at the moment I would have to disagree with you.
Depending on their crime and their original jail time, that would determine their time at war. Why would it not be? They would one day get out of jail so let they one day come home, maybe. Those on death row, oh well. Tax payers either pay for them to sit and watch TV, work out and rot in a jail cell or tax payers for for them to fight for our country.
and yes I do beleive that if they had bullets flying at them they would learn to defend themselves rather quickly.
You're using diversionary tactics ("70 billion on illegal immigrants, and about 300 million on an unjust war") and assumptions of "rights" ("what do you expect when you trap a large section of the population in failing schools and abandon neighborhoods") and that makes your argument pretty weak.
As far as making the $70 billion seem insignificant, just because something ELSE is going wrong doesn't make illegal immigration OK.
And you can't claim that illegals are being "trapped" into poor education and bad neighborhoods because that's assuming that our society has a responsibility to someone who broke our laws to get here. We have enough poor schools and bad neighborhoods filled with our own people to take care of.
What the country needs is a definitive way to become a tax paying citizen who is documented and has the same rights AND some responsibilities of all others. And yes you should speak English. The Germans, Spanish, Italians, Portuguese, Japanese , etc etc etc all learned English when coming here. You can speak your own language in public, private, I don't care. You just shouldn't expect our government to spend tax money printing things in another language for your sake.

We already have one of these. It is called legal immigration and America already has the most generous legal immigration policy in the world. Annually, we accept about 1 million people of all nationalities, creeds, races, ethnicities and I presume sexual orientations. We accept more immigrants annually then all of the world's other 199 countries COMBINED.
We don't need another method for people to become citizens. They should follow the established procedure.
I'm all for a world where I can live where I want when I want, and so can anyone else. It's not quite practical the way the government(s) run, but that's what change is for.

People seem to forget that America was populated by immigrants. The major difference between then and now...They learned english, they worked hard to establish themselves, most were a benefit to society.
The argument here comes from the people who enter illegally and sometimes legally and then do nothing but complain about our culture. If your culture/country is so great then go back there.

Like any country our history is not always something to be proud of but the main fact is that the founding fathers built our constitution on christian beliefs and now people are trying to erase that or ignore it.
If you're not a Christian that's fine. You are given the right to your personnel religious freedom so leave the rest of us the hell alone. If you don't like "In God we trust" on your money...go home. If you don't like it in our pledge of allegiance, on our federal buildings, in the basic fabric of our society that is YOUR problem.

So, lets put out feel good hat away for a moment and look at the cost of illegal immigration. Closed emergency rooms, closed hospitals. You the taxpayer supporting, who knows how many, non American kids in the schools (to the detriment of your kids.) And the wonder of TB brought in by illegals! Its not a bad idea to double-check your sources before making an argument based on statistics that (as it turns out) are of questionable veracity.
First of all, it is untrue that these statistics came from the Los Angeles Times. This hoax has been circulating through e-mails and on various ultra-conservative websites for quite some time, and while some of the claims are more or less accruate, some of them most certainly are not.

LAT citations: May 15, 2005 — "According to Heather MacDonald of the Manhattan Institute, 95% of the hundreds of outstanding homicide warrants (and 60% of outstanding felony warrants) in L.A. are for illegal immigrants."

Factual basis: An outstanding warrant is quite a different beast than a regular warrant, so this "fact" left out the key word. We did some more checking on the outstanding warrants point itself. MacDonald stated this in a 2004 City Journal article, and in testimony before the House of Representatives in spring 2005, noting that this came to 1,200-1,500 warrants. One LAPD officer cited the same factoid in the National Review earlier this year, saying that it's specific to "the first half of 2004". But Jane Robison, press secretary for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, told us that the D.A. does not keep track of this number; a representative with Detective Headquarters said the same.
I don't think that very many people here would suggest that illegal immigration is not a major problem in this country (I certainly would not), but it doesn't help one's argument to incorrect and often made-up statistics in an attempt to avoid the real issue, which is that the immigration policies are broken. It is easier to scapegoat the immirgrant rather than to take responsiblity for the fact that we have elected officials whose graft and incompentence are the real sources of this problem.
