In this Reuters article, we find a story that grants a little hope to those who are not blinded by the silly notion that 'guns kill people' or that 'guns are bad'. . .
San Francisco passed a law a while back to ban the existance of handguns within the city. You could not have a handgun in the city, you could not own a handgun, you could not have ammunition, you could not have the equipment to make ammunition.
(Oddly enough, there was nothing in the ban about how to also get guns away from the criminals, who ignore such laws by default)
Many gun rights groups fought against such a law, with the help of many retired police and military folks. The Law was struck down, but the City continued to hand out fines for people who engaged in that 'horrible' activity of actually owning a handgun.
The lawsuit continued on and was just struck down by a California State Appeals court. Of course, this won't stop the anti-gun lobby. Afraid that law abiding responsible citizens might have a way to defend themselves against criminals, the city is in the process of further appeals.
In a war between the innocent and the criminals, San Francisco has clearly chosen to side with the criminals.
Of course, those that pass these laws are protected by armed security.
