Where's the beef!?

Where is your beef coming from?

Is it from Westland/Hallmark Meat Company because if so you better put it down. The humane society recently released an undercover video of the real goings on at a Southern California slaughterhouse, a part of the Westland/Hallmark Meat Co.. They found that, not only were the cows too sick to stand, they were moving the cows with forklifts or chaining them up and dragging them across the pavement. Now I'm no animal rights activist, but this makes me sick. Yes, a cow isn't a person and it is headed to its death anyway, but I simply can't image dragging a cow across concrete because it can't stand up.

These cows are not only "commercial" beef either. Over 150 school districts across the nation employ Westland/Hallmark Meat Company as their beef supplier. The United States Department of Agriculture is struggling to collect the tainted beef and keep it out of schools. But they continue to insist that this is not a health threat and now they claim they had evidence that Westland/Hallmark was not performing routine veternarian check ups. What's even worse is that officials believe the majority of the beef has already been consumed, possibly by students.

The only good that has come of this is a few felony counts and a couple of misdemeanors for both pen managers and managers of the California slaughterhouse.

Finally we can say, "I told you so," when school administrators claim the food is good. I'm glad I packed my lunch!
