A World Torn Apart

I wrote this poem as if I were talking to my children.  I hope someday they understand fully what I'm trying to tell them.

A  World Torn Apart

I look at the world today and then at my children and the only thing I can think of to say is ‘I’m sorry.’

I’m sorry for the people who think money is God.  They think they can buy anything in this world, including people.  Well, I’m not for sale.  And neither is my soul.

I’m sorry about the religious fanatics who discriminate and hate based on their beliefs.  They can’t see past scriptures and verse and look at people for who they are.  They don’t see you.

I’m sorry about drugs and what they do to the people who are trapped by the burden off addiction.  I pray you’ll never get trapped by such a disease, but I’ll love you nonetheless.

I’m sorry that we’re passing down to the next generation a world torn apart.

It’s torn by war and conflict.

Ripped to shreds by government and the dirty politics that govern this world.

I’m sorry about the thousands of people, children just like you, who die from hunger and disease.  They starve while so many people have more than they can eat thrown in the garbage.  Those children’s lives could be saved by what’s rotting in our very own city dumps.

Do you really want a world torn apart?

It’s torn by hate and wicked desires.

Shatter like the innocence of children raped and abused.

I’m sorry there are so many men and women out there that don’t cherish you and the rest of the children the way you’re meant to be cherished.  They’re willing to ruin the future of your world and the children they take advantage of for evil, cheap thrills and a useless attempt for power and control.  I weep for those children.

I’m sorry that children are growing up too soon too fast.  They seek the pleasures of adulthood without any of the responsibilities.  Too many of our kids are having kids they can’t take care of.  They don’t think about their future.  Please, think about yours.

I’m sorry we’re giving you a world torn apart.

Shredded by what we force our children to do in the name of God and country.

I’m sorry children are trained to kill before puberty and used in militia and guerilla warfare.  We’re playing a deadly game and our children are suffering.  Do you think that’s what God wants?

I’m sorry about all the minds out there that are closed instead of open.

I’m sorry it’s easier to hate and judge and be bigots than it is to care and understand other people’s differences.  How sad is it that we’re too lazy to learn to love.

I’m sorry for all those people who won’t accept you for who you are.  Please accept them even if they can’t accept you.  Remember it’s not their fault.  They’ve been handed a world torn apart too.

I’m sorry we’re passing down to the next generation a world torn apart.

I’m sorry we’re tearing the fabric of society and handing you the pieces.  Do you think you’ll be able to put it back together?

I’m sorry we’re using our natural resources and killing off the rain forests and thousands of species of animals like they’re never going to run out.  What will you do to save our planet?  What can you do?

I’m sorry I don’t have all the answers you need.

I’m sorry if I didn’t do everything I could to piece together this world torn apart.

I’m sorry….

i hear you man.... i fear for my future children.....

im tryin to fix it though. your point about the corrupt politicians and government? lets end that together. this year. with Stephen Colbert.

let him become our next president, and we will see changes. GREAT changes!

no more lies, or deceit.problems will still be there, but our government will be open! they will tell us what is goin on, instead of hiding it!!!
do it fo rthe children!!!!

I think Cyclops had a too light response to an obviously troubled blog.

I'm sorry too. That's why I vote in elections and one day I want to do things to help change the world. I'm starting here and now. I think we all are.
I feel sorry for the generation walking into it now. It's not their fault.

I dream and hope that I can raise my children to be strong and help us change our torn world. I think that if all of us raise our children open minded, smart, and curious then maybe we'll have a generation that cares and wants to change the world.
