The Comment Junkie

I am a self-proclaimed comment junkie. I love getting comments, whether it’s to one of my blogs or to a thread I start on another site. I will check back multiple times on blogs I’ve recently written just to see what people say. Am I a hopeless addict, or is my obsession understandable?

I’m also big into commenting on other people‘s blogs. I’d say that I comment on 90% of the blog entries I read. I comment because I know other people enjoy getting comments. I like to share my own opinion, ask a question, or give tips on how to improve an entry.

Comments that I receive also serve another purpose: they help me improve my writing or point out mistakes that I didn’t notice while typing. I will unashamedly admit that I do not write perfect blogs, and I’m always trying to do better.

I’m also always checking back at another site where I write my fan fictions (stories based on characters already created). I got comments that illustrated what the reader thought of the story so far, or where hey were confused, or what they would like to see in the future. Without the comments I received on these fanfics, I probably wouldn’t have been able to continue. I am new at fan fiction writing, and I felt a little dorky doing it too, but with the written encouragement and complements of my readers, I was able to plug on and continue. This was incredible for my self-esteem!

Are there any other self-proclaimed junkies out there? What do you like about comments and/or why do you comment? As a side note for you scholarship chasers, comments get you ten more points, so why not comment here?

Huh, I guess my “12 Step Program For Prog U Comment Junkies” hasn’t paid off. :)

I think that wanting comments is understandable. I know I check every blog entry I write (here or elsewhere) hoping that someone will respond and give me some feedback.

Its a good feeling :)

Wow... I am also a comment junkie.

Maybe we should start a group, "ProU Comment Junkies R Us"

: )

That would be an awesome group! Ha, all the junkies could commune in one place.

It would be inundated with comments.

...then we'd be banned from ProgU for excessive use of comments....

You should totally comment on my blog posts yes?

I've been writing huge replies to loads of posts lately. XD I've spent hours here. Oh well. It's EDUCATIONAL, after all!

That's the spirit!

And I already comment on your blog posts. :)

You should rate them, too.... ;)

I usually try to rate, but sometimes I don't because I don't know what to rate just yet.

....but i will keep this in mind for the future.

"Excellent"? :p If you liked it, that is.

I have written very few blog posts, but I write tons of comments on ProU. I love being able to add to what's being said and ask questions, and I am constantly checking if other people have added comments to posts I've commented on. I don't have as much time as I use to, so I don't write quite as many comments, since I don't like to comment if I don't have time to say something intelligent, but when I started on ProU I would comment on almost every single post I read.

It's nice to see what others think about things you have written. It's also nice to be able to share something you want to say about someone else's blog entry. Feedback is useful, whether it be positive or negative feedback. It helps us to see other points of view.

I'm a comment junkie! I comment back to what people leave for me, and I comment on about 99% of what I read. The only time I dont comment is when I can't think of anything at all that would add to the discussion.

I'm getting to be like that too and I try to say a little more than just "i agree" in a comment. If I didn't I'd feel like I was stealing points for the comment or something!

Sheesh I'm weird.

Nah, you're not weird. I try to do the same. Sometimes I can't think of anything relatively meaningful to say, so I just forget about it.

I love comments. The main reasons I comment is because I like to share my opinion and I hope others will return the favor. *Hint Hint.* hehe.

I like to comment too! It's a lot of fun. I usually don't even have anything to say (like now for instance). I think that's what blogging is for: expressing opinions. Maybe we're all comment junkies...

While commenting, discussing, and expressing opinions is encouraged, we do prefer you have something to say when you comment. This will both prevent moderators from needing to revoke points for comments that don't say anything, and get you more respect from other bloggers, who want to hear your thoughts not just "I agree."
