Last night was a sad night for all of the students at Harrison High school. For the past two years, students at Harrison have enjoyed a math teacher with extreme expertise, and a willingness to work with students. This teacher has been exceptionally dedicated, not only in his teaching, but also as a class advisor, coach, and sponsor of clubs. No one can question his capability as a teacher, or enthusiasm for his subject. Recently, he suffered an accident that left him in a care facility, which left us temporarily without a math teacher. In his absence, we students have seen how essential a good teacher is to our academic progress. This said, it is puzzling to us all that the superintendent gave him a "Do not hire" recommendation. More puzzling still is the fact that last night at the school board meeting, the school board approved his recommendation, despite the fact that more than 15 community members, teachers, and students voiced support. We are outraged that a fantastic teacher can be dismissed without cause. We only hope that the school board will realize what a tragic mistake they are making. In order to help the school board realize the magnitude of their mistake, 31 of the 47 students at HHS walked out of class at 9:21 and stood accross the street with protest signs. I was able to call a reporter from an area newspaper, who was able to cover the event. Some people think that the do not hire reccomendation was backlash for this teacher's membership in the State Teachers Union. Hopefully the school board amd administration will attempt to correct or apoligize for their mistake. ~Freddie

as a futured educator, i will do my best to be half as good as your math teacher and that I have students that are half as dedicated to empowering themselves. thank you for an inspiring story.

Many not fair things happen. A similar case happened in my high school, with the principal. But students from all classes protested; the local television came; the local teaching inspectors came too. After 3 days of protest from both students, teachers and parents, she was reinstated as a principal again.
That is so wrong, I hope you get this solved
THat is very wrong.. its sounds like your school was blessed to have a great teacher that actually was even more than just a teacher... i hope they realize their mistakes and your efforts are rewarded... your teacher should be very proud
