Video Games in Schools...

Tagged:

The Federation of America Scientists claims that video games can actually redefine education! Researchers have been studying how the addictive video games can be converted to learning tools for schools. Video games do teach analytical thinking, team building, and problem solving. The researchers claim that the games would have to be created so that the ultimate goal would be achievement. One advantage of the idea is that many homes already have video game systems. Yet, research into which features on video games are most important for the learning process could be expensive. The one thing holding back the furthering of this concept is costs. According to the game industry educational games are not successful, but the researches say that the games would be marketed to the schools. Overall, I think that this idea does have potential if the right research is done and if they right video games are created. Yet, personally I would not like to learn via video games. I really do not think this idea will be carried out to schools any time in the near future…

This debate has been doing on since teacher and scientist got together and figured out that games are addictive. As a gamer myself, it's a low blow when they bitch about something like this. To make a great game to get students to learn is by using a popular game into a learning tool. What my friend introduced me is a game called "Typing of the Dead." Not only is the fun of shooting zombies to grab the attention of those "ADD" kids, but teaches them how to type! Sure it'll offend parents and teachers, but dammit, if it gets them to type and learn, why not?
