Veteran's Day

Today is Veteran's Day and most people had off of school yesterday in honor. Why yas this holiday become just another day to get off of school? Even in my small town we usually have a parade but this year's hasn't been announced at all. Especially with the 'war' going on today one would think that people would pay more attention to our veterans. It seems that it really is just another day off of school to some people. Around my house though it's a Big Deal. You see, my mom is a veteran, and no matter how much she makes me mad with her military tough love, she's still a hero. She dresses up in her camo and walks around the house expecting us to treat her like a queen. It's really quite a scene.

You don't have to support the war, or the president (I don't), but you should support the troops. As with any war, most of them don't even want to be there. Most of them don't supoort the war or the president either. PLease, take a moment today and reflect on what our military veterans have done for this country, and plaese also remember those who lost the fight for their lives.

Yes, this and Memorial Day seem to have lost their spark. I don't know how exactly how we would go about bringing them back, but I believe it should be done. My school didn't get a day off this year, in all honesty I am some what happy with that. No one appreciates it anyway. Congrats to your mom for being a Vetran!

The real meaning behind this day is lost. As well as with Memorial Day. Honoring and Remembering. Most people and kids only think of it as a extra day off work or school. It is nice that someone your ages know the meaning of it... but I guess you mom helps..lol I feel the only way some people will understand, is from you. You have the sence of the day itself, just share that with others. Don't force it though, just get them to listen. It only takes one person. Best to you.

PS: let your mom know.....Thank you!!!!

I can heartily agree that the meaning of Veteran's Day has been lost, as (debatably) have many other holidays including MLKJ Day, Memorial Day, President's Day, and possibly even the 4th of July (as absurd as that might sound). They have almost become blase, where the benefits are appreciated but the living veterans, the deceased soldiers, etc., are no longer remembered except in fleeting thought.
I would also like to emphasize that we should spend time contemplating, honoring, and showing respect to veterans (and current soldiers!) notably today; but hopefully on all days and in all circumstances.
Let us never forget: "Old soldiers never die; they just fade away" (-MacArthur); but let us not allow them to fade into this oblivion.

I think 4th of July is still appreciated by people. I mean we have these huge firworks and celbration. Or maybe it is just another day for people to just get drunk.

in my city is not celebrated at all i just know that we have that day off and that is it. I live in los angeles california and when i was going to high school we used to get the day off for veterans day but we will never celebrate any thing at all. I believe that yea we should care more about what is going on in our country regarding the war and it should not just be taken to just get the day off from school instead they should creat that day to take field trips to learn more about veterans and what they did when they faught during the war.
