So now you know about Dante's interpretation of Hell, here's his interpretation of Heaven.
As with Hell, there are 9 circles of Heaven. Where Hell went downward to the worst, Heaven goes upward to the best.
Circle 1: the inconstant- those who made vows but violated them under pressure. They are in Heaven because their intent was good, but Circle 1 because their courage weakened under pressure.
Circle 2: the ambitious-those who worked to help others but for their own honor. That desire diminished their virtue.
Circle 3: those who loved dearly on earth and learned to transform love into love for all while on earth.
The completely positive Heaven begins with Circle 4.
Circle 4: the prudent- they were wise and cautious and able to forsee the consequences of their actions.
Circle 5: the courageous, especially those who fought for their faith.
Circle 6: the just- they attained a nearly perfect blend of wisdom and righteousness.
Circle 7: the temperate and the comtemplative- the temperate understood human priorities, the comtemplative gave themselves wholly for their fellow human beings and for God.
Circle 8 and 9: these circles discuss no virtues. These Circles hold the saved.
So the assignment is to think of 10 bad and good qualities and make our own Hell and Heaven along with punishments. So my Hell consists of this....
Circle 1: those who betray- This includes backstabbing friends, those who lie to themselves and others, and those who betray their country. Those who betray friends will forever be consumed by all of their betrayals. Those who lie to oneself and to others shall in turn be lied to for eternity. Those who betray country shall be shot by firing squad, their wounds will heal and the process will be repeated.
Circle 2: those who cheat.- The ones who cheat on lovers will be cast out into an ocean with no way of saving themselves. Those who cheat in any other aspect of life will be engulfed in flames for part of the time and in ice the other part of the time.
Circle 3: those who are disrespectful. (idk their punishment)
Circle 4: those who harm themselves and others- those who harm themselves will be made into stone and placed in front of a mirror so they will have to "live" with who they were for eternity. those who disrespect family and friends will be locked into small rooms alone with no interaction with anyone.
Cricle 5: those who are selfish.- they will be given everything they had in life. then they will be forced to give all of it away with no gain to themselves.
Circle 6: those who are self absorbed- they will be placed in a room of mirrors and they will see their flaws in every mirror. there will be no positive reflections, only negative.
Circle 7: those who harm children and women- those who harm children by emotional abuse will be forced to go through everything they made the child go through. those who physically harm children will be sentenced to be beaten with whips and they will be forced to endure the pain they inflicted upon the children only 50 times worse. those who rape children will be seduced by old women.
Circles 8 & 9 I'm not sure about yet
I'm not sure about Heaven right now either.
