Well, here it is.... the last of the entries of 10 things to know about concealed carry permitholders.
The next series will either be a look at the 10 commandments of firarm safety or a series of stories of people saving their lives by the use of a firearm. (since you never hear about such things in the news)
Without further ado:
10. The fact that criminals know that some of the population may be armed at any given time helps to deter violence against all citizens. Permit holders don't believe that every person should necessarily be armed. We recognize that some people may not be temperamentally suited to carry a firearm or simply may wish not to for personal reasons. However we do encourage you to respect our right to arm ourselves. Even if you choose not to carry a firearm yourself please oppose measures to limit the ability of law abiding citizens to be armed. As mentioned before: criminals do not observe "gun free zones". Help by not supporting laws that require citizens to be unarmed victims.
This has been covered in different ways throughout this series. The presence of armed people DOES have a DIRECT influence on crime in that crime rates fall. As we've covered before, concealed carry people don't think that everyone has to have a firearm. Some countries actually do operate that way, and it suits them so that's fine. I like that people here have the freedom to NOT be armed if they don't want to be.
Please remember that even if you don't love guns, or even if you HATE guns, the existance of firearms in the hands of good and responsible citizens is MUCH more beneficial to you than passing serious gun control laws (which do nothing but ensure that only those who use guns for crime would have them.)
Remember that police do their job, and they do a GOOD job. However, they are not able to exist everywhere at once and they are not a defacto private security force. If you don't want to take the responsibility for your own security, that's fine, however some of us do take this responsibility and wish to keep our loved ones and ourselves safe.
Don't take away my rights because you don't want it for yourself.

I live in Florida, where we are allowed to shoot-to-kill if people are threatening us in our homes or even on the sidewalks. Crime seems to be less of a problem all of a sudden: I guess that the fact that any "victim" could be packing heat makes people think twice about hassling people. I think that conceal-and-carry permits and less restrictive firearms laws are the way to go, but then, I'm a gun-toting hippie. =)
Seriously, though. I'd shoot someone if they threatened me, and the fact that I'm allowed to really makes people think twice before they do it. Nice post.
(if you can't see the fnords they won't eat you)
On one of the "ten things to know" posts, there was a liberal trying to suggest that the drop in crime in the United States was from more gun control.
They just don't get it that when you arm the populace, the criminals start to reconsider mugging someone.
Even the CRIMINALS admit to it.
Not to mention all of the killing sprees in recent history that take place are on 'weapons free' areas... Virginia Tech, all the high school shootings, post offices, etc. etc. etc.
