I'm all for stoping world hunger and helping others but shouldn't americans take care of our own problems before we try and save the world.
I know that we are a helping country and there are may problems in the world but there are things in our own boarders that we need to fix.
There are still people living in trailer homes from Katrina, thousands of homeless people, and a dropping economy. But along with those is the fact that we need to find better ways to get around and not pollute, how are our kids going to get the education that they need if we are having problems with the money that is going into the schools, and having americans work together and help others.
If we have these problems in our country yet we are trying to help others what can be said about the other countries once we leave. We may help them but then they could end up having the same problems as we have.
I'm not against helping others, I feel that if we are able then we should, but maybe we should help ourselves first.

I agree with you, but our government isn't so one dimensional. Before WWII we did help ourselves and had very little to do with the outside world. However after WWII we became a Super Power and had to help war torn countries get back on their feet. I think we have gone too far the other way now. I think a balance would be perfect.
"I am a Stephens Woman."
You see, most humanitarians think America is able to take care of its own people. Third world country where the government do not even have enough money to go to war have citizens who are even less educated. Compare to others, we are already lucky. Who's responsibility to take care of homeless people and other unfortunates? The government doesn't give a damn with the whole war in Iraq thing going on. We should definitely help ourselves first. As a matter of fact, we are putting ourselves before anyone else. That's why I live in a house with my family. I don't think I can give the house away to some homeless guy and put my family and myself onto the streets. It's better-you-than-me attitude that many well off people are doing less to help those who are less fortunate.
