Celebrities get away with quite a lot that a normal citizen wouldn´t get away with.

Okay I have mentioned before that I am a celeb mag junky... yeahh yeahhh I know. The fact is that the more that I read the magazines, I have come to learn that they are almost treated entirely different from an everyday citizen. Well that sounds stupidly obvious, because I mean I don´t walk into Safeway hounded by photographers, but I am talking about laws that every American citizen is supposed to abide to.

The one that has really caught my eye lately is concerning the drastic amounts of celebrities who are entering treatment centers for drug and alchohol problems. Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears etc. etc. I think that´s great that they are treating a problem that they are struggling with, props for that. But, what kind of irks me is that everyone (or at least the pathetic population of gossip mag readers like myself) have known for years that Lindsay Lohan loves to party. There are numerous photos of her with alchohol and her drunk of her ass, but she is only 20 years old. This has been going on for years, and now she is attending alchoholics anonymous before she even can legally drink. It is so widely publicated that she drank (possibly did other things as well) and yet why weren´t police giving her a misdemeanor or felony? Why was she allowed into clubs for 21 and older and served alchohol? Because she´s a celebrity.

Or what about Britney Spears. Since just becoming a mother she has put her new baby incorrectly in a car seat, she has driven with her baby on her lap, her baby has fallen out of a highchair, she abused drugs and alchohol leaving her children home with a nanny, etc. Why aren´t those children taken away? Because she is a celebrity.

Now I suppose I am generalizing because yes celebrities are in the limelight all the time and yes every new mom makes a few mistakes and yes yes yes highschoolers drink alchohol. But honestly, in my town at least, if you are caught at a party and you are drinking underage, its not like the good ol days where they just tell you to pour out the cup and go home. In my town, you are given a misdemeanor or felony, no messing about.

I just wonder, what gives celebrities more grace than average citizens....? I would love your opinions!
