It seems as if every time I go some where, there are always people who are on the streets asking me for change. I have no problem with that, but I think some times that I would like to do more to make sure that they are getting what they need. Here I am a young seventeen year old girl, and I am doing more than my city government. Or previous city government, that I will always represent no matter what.
I am writing this blog to express my true personal thought not to exploit any one or anything like that, I am concerned with the things that matter. I wanted to write about Philadelphia's mayor John Street. As some people know that John Street has abandoned his city along time time ago, and that now his attempts to do something about the city's high crime are futile. Last month, Street waited in line for an I-Phone instead of doing something about the city's crime, wasting hours that he could have been helping fight crime in the city. At that same time that he wasted, shootings occured. Its sad to see so much corruption in government, to see that people who have the power to do things, but they just don't. I can't seem to fathom the thought of people laying in the streets, and the city's government just does nothing. The youth of the inner city have no place to go, no recreation centers, because no one is really supplying the money because no one really care about the community. People don't talk to eachother anymore, they are only concerned with what occurs in their own household. There were a group of kids who were going around attacking people because they have nothing else better to do. It's ashame, politicians lie so much, that next year I think that if I register to vote that it will make no difference, because nothing will ever change. It will just get worse as time progresses.

Eh, don't feel so down. I'm sure that people were thinking the same kind of thoughts during the Great Depression. If anything, I'd have to think that we can only get "better" because we, humans as a race, have already hit rock bottom. We've been digging this pit for so long that I do not think it is possible to get any lower.
Think about it. Since as far back as anyone can remember, people have been treating others with nothing but disrespect and hatred. All this has hatred has beget more hatred and so on and so forth. But there are those people out there that even in the bleakest of hours chose to do that one random act of kindness that simply spreads like weeds in my front lawn (and do I have a lot of weeds. You can't kill the things...nothing works on my lawn).
The point being, so long as we have people out there with the understanding that you have, how we need to do more for our community and such, this world will continue to function and may even repair itself. Our tribes are broken. Our homes are broken. Our men are broken. Perhaps it is time that we work to fix the men, the homes, and the tribes.

Yeah, I know that we have already hit rock bottom and how can we sink any lower. I am so confused. I get mixed up with what I was taught in the past about how these are the last times and things can only worsen with time.
But then again, I don't know because I don't really believe that there will be an end to the earth. I mean not anytime soon. I think that nature will take its course in about 100 years when global warming kills us all, but by then I will probably be dead, so...
But that's another topic...And an example within itself. A man by the name of Al Gore is doing all he can to help make the world aware of global warming, and yet no one really pays him any attention. I hear what you're saying, and I see a new light, but why does some thing bad always have to happen in order for me to even try to come to some type of conclusion? We should see the problem and resolve it right then and there, or atleast try. The mayor of Philadelphia, isn't even trying to help people who really need it. And when I saw him on the television in line waiting to buy an I-Phone in the wee hours of the morning, that just made me think there is no hope for the city. I am ready to see change but no one will expose it to me or the people of the city. So I am blogging this topic because I want my opinion to be heard. I will try to help, and I am going to help make things better in any way that I can. And I will try to hace faith in human spirit!!!!
Global warming in and of itself has been disproven so many times, it's crazy. I mean, scientists have shown that the earth goes through natural cycles of warming and cooling, hence the ice ages that have been had. I mean, 3 degrees over the last 100 years? Like I really trust global climate readings from 100 years ago.
As I see it...well, if you've ever seen the episode of South Park where Al Gore talks to Stan, Kyle, Cartmen and Kenny about Manbearpig...It's to get attention.
And the mayor of Philadelphia is one person. What about all the other thousands of people in that city that could be doing sometime to fix the problems? Let's not try and pin the problems of the many on the inadequacy of the few whom the majority empowered.
Look at all the other cities around the nation that are among the world's safest places to live. I mean, I would love to live somewhere where I don't have to lock my door at night. :-) I guess it comes down to us all being able to let go of our "don't talk to strangers" mentality long enough to go about doing something kind from time to time.

Vote him out! You might not be old enough to vote yet, but you likely will be before the next election rolls around. Start now writing letters to the editor, attending council meetings and organizing to boot him out of office. The great thing about these people is that we have the opportunity to do something about it when they don't do their job.

Yeah, I see did that episode! That was a good one. And I never really thought of it that way.Although, it seems as if you're saying the scientists' studies, who were alive 100 years ago, were not accurate? I don't know but I am fortunate to have your perspective because that really brings me hope. And the mayor is just one person he can't change every thing, but he is the mayor and he is capable of doing something. I was thinking that he could promote or motivate people to help him to do something about all the problems that are going on.
Likely, he could do something but honestly, how many people can be crimefighters when the iPhone is being released?!

I do doubt the accuracy of the scientists' studies a century ago. Shit, I doubt them today, but I have to believe that we've advanced some and therefore, our readings, while not perfect, are closer.
