Rap Music

The objective of this blog is to talk about topics that are current events, public policy and issues affecting "young people". I have "young people" in quotation because I am unsure of who is the judge of who is young and who is old. That question is not the objective of this blog, though. The night of the Saturday that just passed I attended a show. There were three rap performances and since then I hungout with the rappers for 24 hours straight. Media, news, religion, teachers, et cetera put bad connotations onto a lot of rap along with other young people and just your everyday adult. This is unjust. Persoanally, how can anyone call anyone else's art bad or indecent? There exist a curve in the mindset for judging the art of today. In the past, nudity was excepted in art, today there are limitations. What is art if not the purest form of expression emitted to the outside world from the inner-being? Yes, that is my definition of it. I believe there should be no limitation on art, and people today usually question waht art is, and believe that they have total control over judging what is and is not. Why would a college professor judge a second-graders picture of her mother a piece of art? Simply because that is what the child says it is but it is not taken seriously unless the professor has personal connection to the child. I currently have to go to a meeting at a gallery for my upcoming art exhibit, I will definitely exaggerate on this topic later. Until then, anyone here have statements to be made?

Art
Wit' a man in the house
All the bullshit stops
Then I sing a song
About what the hell is goin' wrong
You never know
If you only trust the TV and the radio
These days
You can't see who's in cahoots
'Cause now the KKK
Wears three-piece suits
It's like that y'all, it's like that y'all
In fact you know it's like that y'all

Any rap music listener will tell you that Flavor Flav sang these lyrics with Public Enemy. It displays a level of understanding and a distaste for the status quo. IE They weren't "ignorrant."

Not Art
I ain't never seen nuthin that'll make me go,
This crazy all night spendin my dough
Had a million dollar vibe and a bottle to go
Dem birthday cakes, they stole the show
So sexual, she was flexible
Professional, drinkin X and ooo
Hold up wait a minute, do I see what I think I
Whoa
Did I think I seen shorty get low
Ain't the same when it's up that close
Make it rain, I'm makin it snow
Work the pole, I got the bank roll
Imma say that I prefer them no clothes
I'm into that, I love women exposed
She threw it back at me, I gave her more
Cash ain't a problem, I know where it goes

No purpose, no thought, I'm sorry, but Flo Rida misses the catagory of "art" and lands squarely in what modern man would call "meaningless."
