Part 8.
8. The fact that we carry a firearm to any given place does not mean that we believe that place to be inherently unsafe. If we believe a place to be unsafe, most of us would avoid that place all together if possible. However, we recognize that trouble could occur at any place and at any time. Criminals do not observe "gun free zones". If trouble does come, we do not want the only armed persons to be perpetrators. Therefore, we don't usually make a determination about whether or not to carry at any given time based on "how safe" we think a location is.
After "you carry a gun?" the most common question I get when someone finds out that I have a concealed carry permit, or that I'm carrying, is "Do you think you're going to get shot?" . . . followed closely by "What kinds of places do you go to where you need a gun?"
No, I don't think I'm going to get shot, nor do I go to dangerous places. I don't go seeking danger. However, crime doesn't just happen in dark alleys or in the inner-city. We don't believe that our streets are overrun and all hope is lost..... we don't believe that the police are inept or unable to do anything to fight against the criminals... we just believe that it is our duty to protect ourselves in an emergency, not the job of the police. If you see one of us carrying, you're not in a dangerous area. As we'll cover tomorrow, you've actually just become a bit safer as long as you're with one of us.
You'd be even safer if you went through the education and training and became one of us.
