It seems a hot topic of today is...................EMO. Some people wonder what it actually is. some people dont and just decide to blurt out......homo, queer, fag. That is really degrading and childish. I am often declared emo, and yeah i guess i look like it, but does have the nation even understand what this style is. My wording of it is..........being different. One description of emo style is to think of something on your own and have fun with it. My hair, i cut and colored myself and i like it. It seems different then others and that is what i like. Granted emo comes from the word emotional, but so what. That does not mean we are homosexual or that we slit our wrists. That is kind of wrong to judge like this. We like to cut our hair different, wear different clothes, and like different (AND SO AWESOME) music. If i am seeing right, so does everybody else. Even with homosexuals. Dont judge someone because they are different. It is their decision and they should be able to have just as much free will as we do. We all are different in somebody's eyes, and we all should be able to SHINE no matter what.

Your so right! Our world today is so judgemental of anyone who is considered different and it is so wrong. I believe that a person has the right to be who and what they want to be with no fear of judgement from other people.
I know what you're talking about. I've seen many of my friends deal with this as they're labeled emo. It's unfortunate that many people try and tear down certain people because they're different. Sadly, that's the way thing goes. People get these ideas in their heads about what emo means (a whiney, cutting, poserish teen) and they just never stop. It's the same for many different styles (clothing, music, lifestyles in general).
It'd be great if everyone could just be themselves and no one would be cruel to them because of it. I think we're a long way off from that, though

AMERICA's only real job is to pump out citizens ready to work for corporations.......so the NORM is always broascast inorder to show the youth what the ESTABLISHMENT expects once you graduate college...
So those of us who like being different goes against the supposed NORM.....which pisses off those who have chosen to conform....eventually we will all be those people spewing judgemental hatred at those who choose to be different.....Unless you choose to stay different.....
But there are consequences for that....I.E. good luck finding a good job
You might want to reconsider the wording of this: "That does not mean we a homosexual and slit our wrists." (Do gay people exclusively act suicidal? That's what it sounds like in this sentence)
And also, there are a lot of emo dressing/acting people. So technically you're not different, you're the same. Same with goths, jocks, etc.
Thank you for the help it is now "That does not mean that we are homosexual or that we slit our wrists." What i mean is that yeah there are many of us, but we are degraded by many others. (Sorry for labeling but, JOCKS, PREPS ETC.)
A fellow associate once told me an interesting story when he is confronted with student's who claim their independence when told to 'change their appearance'. when students ask for help and/or comments on their ability to get a job today, this professor tells them that one of the ways is with impressions, and to help in that department, the student might want to get dressed up, maybe a tie, dress, get a haircut, etc. The student is quick to point out their rights today, and the professor agrees, but turn away from the student and put on a HUGE pair of prescription glasses... biggest coke-bottle glasses you've ever seen, which invariably the student laughs at once the professor turns back around. At that point, the prof calmly states that what the student just did was judge him based on his looks, albiet unknown and potentially wrong all the way around. Normally the student gets the point.
I agree to an extent with Mr. Warbanks... America is quite business oriented, and first impressions are very hard to change... knowing that, make the most of that 'first impression'. If that means changing a 'look' for a potential long-term benefit, there won't be too many organizations, or individuals that will argue against that point.

I'm not emo or anything, but I know exactly what your saying. When I wore black constantly back in middle school I was always asked if I was a "GOTH". Interesting no?
So I know what your talking about, being called a "satanist" when not being into that was really ridiculous being called that.
So I totally know what your going through or what your talking about.
Throughout the past couple of years, I've been called emo quite a few times. I'm not even sure why since most people tend to only call those people who fit into the stereotypical views by such labels (I have a big issue with labels) but I sort of embrace it. I applaud you for accepting difference and loving it. Without diversity, the world is boring and there are enough borign days without that. I let people make fun of my 'emo' hair and glasses and keep on living life, because I like what I like and it certainly isn't their place to decide what's best for me or you.
